ABANDONED. Book about a man fired from his job and his last check is for MILLION dollars

His last check had the comma misplaced, so he received a check for over a million dollars. He then goes to Monte Carlo (could have been another casino in Europe, but i think it's Monte Carlo). He meets a woman who he likes and she ends up being the daughter of one of the casino owners. That's how the book ends. I don't remember the title or author. I read it in Russian in 2005. I think this book or series was at least, moderately successful because it was translated to Russian. It was definitely published before 2005. Any help is appreciated
