Though Selma, nominated for Best Picture, is not based on a specific book, here is a great title on the Selma to Montgomery Voting Rights March:
Because They Marched The People's Campaign for Voting Rights That Changed America by Russell Freedman Because They Marched: The People's Campaign for Voting Rights That Changed America

I just saw the movie Gone Girl. I believe Gillian Flynn wrote the screen play and she did an excellent job transferring the book into a movie. I was afraid the movie would loose the intensity and craziness, but the movie was just as good.

Still, no nomination for her or for Ava DuVernay, the director of Selma. I thought this article summed up this year's Oscar surprises pretty well:

I was surprised that Selma was not nominated for any major categories either. Very disappointing.
Number 4 in that article is true too. I thought Gillian Flynn did a great job creating the screenplay for Gone Girl. I can imagine it is not an easy task since many movies fall short of the book. That's why books are always better!
