15.4 Option 1, works for task though not as 1 book for both options.Option 2:
Any book abandoned after July 1, 2014.
Option 3:
Option 4:
Doesn't have either Greece or Rome referenced in genre list.Option 5:
Well, just in case, we'll save this spot, too. :)Please don't forget that in Options 2, 3 & 5 you must state that the book is not a reread. I've already made a note beside the titles of the books I'm reading for those options, so hopefully I don't forget. :)
Dee wrote: "lol - this is where its great to have a started-not-finished shelf on GR ;)"Yep, that's kind of the idea. :)
Most of my "bumps" were due to either format or what was available at the library, but I like these options. :) I actually have two here that I bumped from my own task and one *is* because it didn't fit option 6 -- As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride (and is on the DQ list)I had actually saved a fair amount of mythology books in preparation and was hoping someone would use the genre. haha. Thanks!
Just one quick verification:
option 4 -- mythology genre present The Song of Achilles
(I actually bumped this from my own task)
Now to narrow down my quickly scribbled list of options for 2 & 3.
Dee wrote: "lol - this is where its great to have a started-not-finished shelf on GR ;)"I usually only add to my left-unfinished if I plan to NEVER RETURN. :P Like a warning sign when I forget that I already tried to go down that path. haha.
i have 2 - a DNF for stuff I plan to not return to, and a started-not-finished for books I start/get distracted on

And sorry, but The Song of Achilles does not work for Option 4. It has mythology for a genre but doesn't have either Greek or Roman mentioned in the genre list. It must have both.
I am having a lot of trouble with Option 4. None of the books I thought would obviously fit, like The Iliad, The Penelopiad or Medea work. Has anyone found anything not young adult romance that fits?I don't see how I can skip this option as I don't make resolutions and if I don't finish a book it stays unfinished.
Let's try this again with actual reading comprehension on my part. :P Half-Blood
fantasy > mythology
& mythology > greek mythology

Dee wrote: "Inspire - greek mythology - 5ppl"That will work, as it has "Greek Mythology" for a genre. I don't know how to link to a book that doesn't have an isbn number, though. So I can't put it's picture in the Approved column.
Morgan wrote: "Let's try this again with actual reading comprehension on my part. :P Half-Blood

Approved. :)
Dee wrote: "i think it you just put title author in the search block it should come up"Duh, of course. Man, sometimes I wonder where my brain is... LOL
I picked "Inspire" as well for option 4. Option 1 I picked
. I was going to use it for 30.5 Atlantis option 1 but it had to be about Atlantis or Atlanteans and the task creator said it wouldn't fit.Option 3 I picked
for Best Debut Goodreads author, it's one of the nominees and not a reread.
For option 1 would Glory O'Brien's History of the Future work for 15.4? It was published in that time frame, but it's not the first in a series, so doesn't fit.

I'll go with the following:1.- Close but not quite
Embers
From task 30.4 Option 1: This books is shelved as "Classics", but is only 214 pages and the book must be 300 pages long t fit the task
2.- Try, try again
I'll read The Terrible Privacy of Maxwell Sim which I have since March 2014, started reading it in June, abandoned it in September and still haven't finished it
3.- Jump on the bandwagon... there's tons of books that I want to read from this list, so the problem will be choosing one

I think you mean task 30.2 Option 1, and Embers will work for that.
However, your second book won't work as it must have been abandoned at least 6 months ago, so before July 2014, not September.
Angie wrote: "Teri, you skipped my question in message #22. Thanks. :)"Actually, I didn't skip it. The mods and I are messaging about it. :) I'm totally new to the challenge and making tasks, so I'm trying to make sure I get this right. I'm making decisions here, but they'll make the decisions as to points awarded so we have to be on the same page. I promise to get back to you.
FWIW, I appreciate anyone letting me know if it looks like I skipped them. These threads can get a bit wild. I'm off tracking down a task and book and someone else is posting new questions... I don't want to miss anyone.
Artemis Rising -- Please note for Greek mythology (currently the 8th main page genre with 3 users). Thanks

Okay, not a problem! :)
Option 1)The Bay At Midnight by Diane Chamberlain
task 15.3- Option 1- http://www.behindthename.com/names/us... lists Diana -not Diane
Option 4)
Oh. My. Gods.
hi! Fun task!For option one:
Can you confirm that Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game by Michael Lewis is (a) economics book, as tagged by 10+ people here: https://www.goodreads.com/work/shelve... (middle column has "business-econmics 9 people"; "econmics 8 people"; "econ 8 people" but (b) not on the main page, so it doesn't quite meet the requirements for 20.4 option 2 (read a non-fiction book with economics on the main page)?
I think I've got your gist, but do say if this isn't the right tack for this option...
Thanks!
Catherine
Great task Teri, Congratulations. I'm trying to work out my plan here and am a little confused on option 1) Close, But Not Quite - I would like to use the book
Live to See Tomorrow for not quite working for task
5.4 - Erato
Help Thread
Muse Erato was the muse of Love and Love Poetry. She is often depicted holding a lyre and is surrounded by arrows and bows. Read a book with the word "love" found intact in the title, subtitle, series title, or author's name.
My explanation would be is it has the word LIVE instead of the word LOVE.
Is that what you are meaning. Does this book work for option 1?
Thanks
I have a question about 2). About a year ago, I read The Metamorphosis (the English translation of Die Verwandlung). I read it in its entirety, but then tried to read the German original, which was too difficult & I abandoned it until my German was a bit more up-to-scratch. I'd like to try Die Verwandlung again, but would that count for this task, even though I've already read the translation?I'm a bit confused about 1) as well. I was going to read
for 30.3 Greek Key (cover with an organised pattern), but it was disallowed as although it has a pattern, the pattern was not organised. Is that what you mean?
Deborah wrote: "For option 4: would these qualify?
and
"Yes, any SRC qualifying book with the tag Greek Mythology will work.
ETA Only "Greek Mythology" will work, not "Geek Mythology". LOL

I'll buy that. :) If GR combined similar tags economics would definitely be on the front page, and the book does cover economics, so it fits the spirit of 20.4 Option 2.
You definitely got the gist of the task. Enjoy!
For Option 1: Close but not quite? From 30.2 Option 5: Book published in a year/date with an 8 or 24. Book must be more than 300 pages.
Can I use The Remains of the Day? It was published in 1988 but is only 258 pages long.

I hadn't thought of that specifically, but "live" and "love" are only one letter apart, so I say OK. More than one letter - not close enough. But one little vowel? Sure. Approved for Option 1 with your explanation.
(I like creative thinkers. lol)

SuperDuper. Thanks Teri.

Rather like reading an abridged version, then the unabridged. So it should count and it sounds like a worthy task. I hope you enjoy it.
Your second book definitely has a pattern with similar-looking bubbles, they just weren't organized enough to count. So that works, too.

The purpose of this task is to help you clear the decks book-wise so you can begin 2015 fresh.
For this task, you will read THREE books, from three different options. No book with the genre "kids" or "childrens" on its main page may be used for this task.
REQUIRED: State the options you chose and any other required elements when you post.
1) Close, But Not Quite - While picking books for this challenge there were several times when I found the perfect book for a task - only to realize it didn't quite work after all. Perhaps the spelling wasn't correct, or the cover's color wasn't quite right, or it didn't meet the task's required word count. If that happened to you, don't despair, you can use that book here! Read a book you wanted to read for this challenge but that didn't quite fit the requirements for the task. The book must fit most of the parameters of the task, but miss by one detail. (The book must still fit the general SRC challenge rules.) If you haven't had any books like that, then find one that almost works for a task, but not quite, and read it. You can use the help threads rejected books for ideas.
PLEASE NOTE: Children's/Kids, graphic novels, etc. are not allowed for any option in this task and may not be the justification for reading a book for this task.
REQUIRED: Indicate which task the book almost works for, include all required information from the original task AND briefly explain why it didn't fit.
Examples of Explanations:
Not allowed for 20.6 Option 1 because it's a reread.
Doesn't fit 30.8 Option 4 because it's not 250 pages long.
Doesn't fit 30.9 option 5 because it's book #2 in a series.
2) Try, Try Again - Read a book you started once upon a time but didn't finish. You must have gotten through at least the first chapter or the first 25 pages. And it should have languished for more than 6 months - but really, the longer the better, since you'll be starting over from the beginning.
PLEASE NOTE: This book can not be a book you have read completely.
REQUIRED: State when the book was originally abandoned and that it is not a reread when you post. You don't have to remember exactly, a ballpark figure is fine as long as it's more than 6 months ago, (before July 2014).
3) Jump on the Bandwagon - You know that book everyone but you is reading and talking about? The one your Mother, your best friend and your co-workers all rave about, but you still haven't started? Here's your excuse to read it. Pick a book from GoodReads Best Book of the Year 2014 nominees and winners. Click on the winners to see a list of the nominees in each category,
PLEASE NOTE: This book can not be a reread.
REQUIRED: Name the category the book is listed in and state that it is not a reread when you post.
4) It's Your Last Chance - The bonus theme for this challenge is Classical Mythology. For this task, read a book which has "mythology" AND either "Greek" or "Roman" as genres on the main page. They may be embedded or in related forms like "Ancient Greece", or "Mythological", or they may be combined like "Roman mythology". (If you find a book with all three genres listed, it will work, too.)
5) Be Resolved - Most of us make some kind of resolution at the beginning of a new year, whether or not we call it that or record it anywhere. So pick a resolution and read a non-fiction book that will help you reach your goal or learn more of what you need to know to reach that goal.
PLEASE NOTE: As you're supposed to be learning something new, this book can not be a reread.
REQUIRED: State your resolution and if it's not clear from the title or GR description how the book you read relates to that resolution please explain it briefly. Also, state that it is not a reread when you post.
