Louise | 3331 comments I think just read and then add to the spreadsheet. I went to the library on Saturday for the first time in years. They are doing a click and collect service where you let them know what genres you like and they will pick a selection for you. Came out with
The Second Wife by Rebecca Fleet Fractured by Dani Atkins Sophia, Princess Among Beasts by James Patterson and The Day We Meet Again by Miranda Dickinson

The last one I’ve started but the others I’m waiting until this starts 😊

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) My plan is to try to stick to finding words in books rather than a spell it out but we'll see how that goes. Saving my 550 pager to start once this challenge starts.

That sounds pretty cool Louise. Hopefully you will like their picks!

Oh, I wish ours did that, I loved mystery bags...not knowing what you get. Wonder if I can suggest it...

When I was a kid there was a thrift store that did this. Use to pay a 1$ for a bag and it would have 3 books in it. Best part was seeing what you got!

Snowtulip | 4679 comments I'm tempted to ask my husband to go get books and put them in a mystery bag for me...might end up with woodworking books though ;)

But a thrift shop has a more limited selection of woodworking that I might actually get something I like :D

message 57: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I tried to buy a bag of mystery romance books from a used bookstore in Texas. They sent it twice and USPS lost it both times. I'm still very sad about it because it was such a fun idea.

message 58: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments I'm assuming we will all add our own books to the SS? It seems like it will take forever to fill out all that information after each book!

message 59: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Probably should also coordinate spell it outs if possible. I'm going to try to do scavenger as much as possible

message 60: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments Someone probably needs to take point on what we have, what we need, checking the spreadsheet... I hate to say that knowing it can't be me :(

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) LaurLa wrote: "Someone probably needs to take point on what we have, what we need, checking the spreadsheet... I hate to say that knowing it can't be me :("

I think you're right. I might be able to help do it but I don't know that I have the capacity to do all of it.

message 62: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments I don’t mind taking point on this one with a little help

I'm happy to help you with this, Louise.

Ghost in the Stacks Does this start today?

message 68: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 2143 comments This afternoon at 5 for me (EDT)

message 69: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments 10pm for me

message 70: by Snowtulip (new)

Snowtulip | 4679 comments Just went to check out some foodie books and for some reason they are all only audio! Why is it so hard to find an ebook lately...

message 71: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments Hey Louise - I've finished my first book - is it safe to clear out the testing entries in the SS and start adding books? Or do you want us to post completions and let you add?

message 72: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments I’ve cleared the spreadsheet go ahead and add LaurLa

message 73: by Snowtulip (last edited Sep 20, 2020 09:59AM) (new)

Snowtulip | 4679 comments So, it might be that we have books with more food words as we get further into this round, should we just list all our books and then sort out if we will use them later?

Since we can make more meals with books that have lots of items?

Just checking because the book I just finished has handfuls of food, but not too many...

message 74: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 2143 comments That's what I was thinking too, Snowtulip. Since we have a maximum of 80 books for this round, we will probably have to select ones that work best.

message 75: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments We’ll definitely have to select the best books. Is anyone planning on reading the BOM, just downloaded the audiobook.

message 76: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 2143 comments I'd like to read Chain of Gold but can't get from my library yet. I put a hold on it but doubt that I'll get it in time.

message 77: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 2143 comments I added my first book to the spreadsheet. I didn't put page numbers for scavenger words so let me know if I need to.

FIngers crossed Jackie!

message 79: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) So I finished a book but don't have edit access. Waiting to get it.

LaurLa | 2378 comments Stacie wrote: "So I finished a book but don't have edit access. Waiting to get it."

Me too!

message 81: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) LaurLa, I have access now, hope you do too!

message 82: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments I've added my 3 books so far.

message 83: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Added my first book and it covers 12 foodstuffs

Ghost in the Stacks Umm, I didnt see anything posted...is it just a free for all?

Sorry I have had double shifts this week, I actually just work one today, so I will need to reread what is all going on. I was thinking there were certain tasks we needed to complete

message 85: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I think we are just putting what we read and then Louise (with my help if needed) will start putting meals together based on what we read. Right now, we're just listing the books we read and what they work for.

Ghost in the Stacks I put three books in, however I have a handful more.but dang, that took me almost 20 min to do.
Please let me know if you all have found and easier way to do this!

message 87: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Louise, do we want to start attempting to put a few meals together so we aren't scrambling at the last minute? I know we have another couple weeks but it might help us see what we're missing early?

message 88: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Was going to take a look at it in the morning and see where we are

message 89: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments Made a start on creating meals.

message 90: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I am going to try to work on some over 500 page books the next week or so.

message 91: by Snowtulip (new)

Snowtulip | 4679 comments I think I'm going to start focusing on my vinegar books...

message 92: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Oh dear. So ummm. We are supposed to capture page numbers or quotes or something and I have not done that for my books so I'll be going back through them and trying to find page numbers today. If I can't find them, I'll remove books I read.

you'll need something in the justification column. a page / loc / audio chapter is good, but if you've been capturing full quotes, that will work too. We do expect something different to a repetition of the word though!

message 93: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 2143 comments I figured we’d have to do that. I’ll update mine. Have several more books to add as well.

message 94: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments I've added some meal options, will do some more once I've had some food. Don't worry about page number, loc. If I can't find it I'll give a shout.

If column J has a 0 I've used it.

:)

Okay, thanks Louise. I'll make sure to include it from now on.

message 96: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments I figure if I'd go back and get the location and add it if you ended up using the book.

message 97: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3331 comments LaurLa wrote: "I figure if I'd go back and get the location and add it if you ended up using the book."

Can I get locations for No Exchanges, No Returns for
Feta Cheese
Dill
Onion
Bread

:)

message 98: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments here you go - here's the sentence and location - wasn't sure what you wanted so will let you add.

Feta Cheese - mingled flavors of spinach, onions, and feta cheese wrapped in flaky phyllo pastry [loc 273.0]

Dill - layered with lox, thinly sliced cucumber, and fresh dill [loc 267.5]

Onion - mingled flavors of spinach, onions, and feta cheese wrapped in flaky phyllo pastry [loc 273.0]

Bread - a man did not live by bread alone, [loc 306.8]

message 99: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 2143 comments I'm slowly adding my books. This is a terribly time-consuming process!

I was able to get Circe from the library so I can do this BOM.

Also have a 500+ page book coming up.

message 100: by Snowtulip (new)

Snowtulip | 4679 comments Louise, I have the info for my books, Nuts has an especially long list of ingredients, so just let me know what is needed.
