September 2020 Group Read #2: Clown in a Cornfield
Yay my girls 😘. I started the first chapter last night but was mostly falling asleep as it was bed time so will start over today 🙄🤣😂
Kimberly just got her book too. I only started reading early because I have an ARC that was supposed to have been reviewed by now.
I've read the free sample only lol I'm still trying to figure out the fastest and most cost effective way to get it, or whether I should wait a bit. But I'm seeing some great reviews for it so tempted to just buy the e-book so I can read it now lol

That's a constant issue here! LOL! I try to fit them in between reads for groups, or just books on the TBR pile...

So you guys all seem to be enjoying it, which is making me think I’ll give it a shot. I’ve tried a few YA novels on the past and I always end up feverishly rolling my eyes every 3 pages or so. Sounds like that’s not a problem here. I like dark and disturbing as can be; keep all sensitivity far, far away kind of books. 😂

I probably won't get to start until next week at least...

I'm not having a problem with this one at all. Even though it is teenagers, the scares and the gore are THERE.

Well, we will be back here for you whenever you start 😘
I read a lot of ya and epic fantasy books. Actually, I pretty much read all the genres 😉. If I liked it or love it, that’s great. Any book has to have a certain mood and feel to it.

I forget how long the wait is but I have plenty of books 😉

80% through very fast read, crazy book. The generational divide feels a bit too spot on, normally I find horror great escapism but this keeps reminding me of all the anger that seems about at the moment.
Finished this morning. Will post a review soon. Curious about what signifies YA is it just that the chapters are teens? Is it that there is little profanity or sexual content? The novel as a whole didn’t strike me as YA but sometimes I think that’s a tag that’s slapped on things to boost sales. You see YA advertised and your mind goes to “of this should be a light easy read”.I really enjoyed the last 3rd and disliked the 1st. Was a little to slow on the uptick for a slasher story.
I got to read an ARC of this back in March just as the pandemic hit full swing and my library closed for a few months. I enjoyed it and as a teen librarian, felt it fit pretty firmly into the YA category, at least for older YA readers (i.e., high school), and is a good example of the growing amount of dark and/or horror fiction for teens. Yes, definitely, some of it is the age of the characters and the focus on their interpersonal relationships, I agree. I liked how firmly this was in the slasher genre and definitely think that explains part of its appeal to adults who remember the 80s and 90s slashers, but a lot of teens are into those movies as well, just from a different perspective. Still, there's a lot more to YA than light and easy reads and as an audience category there is a lot of variation.
I started this today. I'm listening to the audio book. They are at the party. I like it but I expected more death by now.
Kinda feel bad I haven’t been enjoying myself with this book. I’ll keep reading but I get put off by the teens and I know that my issue and not the book itself. The premise as a whole is very interesting so I want to give it a fair shot. Almost jealous of everyone else’s very positive experience 🤣

I wasn't a fan of the characters and I was a bit bored through most of it.
No one has to feel bad about not liking it. No one group is all going to like or hate anything. We're glad you're participating and it's unfortunate that the book doesn't work for everyone, but it happens and it's no big deal. To be honest, I was put off by the teens too, but I felt better about them as (view spoiler) LOLOL
I finished a couple days ago and I think it was a little slow in the buildup, but once the action kicks in it was pretty propulsive. Great violence and gore. The teens were written really well and I like Quinn, Cole, and Rust. The others were like most annoying, self-absorbed teens. (view spoiler)
i'm giving this one 3 stars. it was ok but i felt it took too long to get slasher-y. the teens were awful but in the end i didn't want any of them to die. every time the narrator said Janet, (which was A LOT) all i could think of was SLUT!!
and Quinn-
This is my first group read on goodreads and I really enjoyed keeping up with this thread. I purchased this book so that I could participate and although the book was just okay, (and I agree with most of the reviews here - slow start, annoying teen characters, better when the action started, not really believable...) this was a good experience and I'm definitely going to continue participating. Love Latasha's comment above. I also gave this three stars.

I haven't started yet.
