Hey guys! Happy week 3!

Post your thoughts on chapters 16-25 here!

Hope you're staying happy and healthy!

Kenly (kenlycg) | 7 comments Hi! I have mixed feelings about the ending. I kinda liked it, but I also want to know what happened with Izzy, and if Elena ever found out who actually had the abortion.
-------
I feel so sorry for Pearl because she finally felt like she belonged somewhere, but that was taken from her in the blink of an eye. I also feel sorry for Trip because I do think that he loved Pearl very much, and he didn't even get to say goodbye to her. By the way, what Moody did to Pearl is unforgivable! The way he treated her was so enraging; making her feel like trash just because she was dating Trip.
-------
I also have mixed feelings about Lexie. At first, I didn't like her. Then, I felt sorry for her because of the baby. But at the end of everything I hated her; just like Izzy said: "you're so selfish."
-------
I hate Mrs. Richardson so much. She didn't even speak to Trip about the whole situation before she blamed it all on Pearl and evicted her and Mia. Also, when she was trying to get the information from her "friend" at the clinic, I felt so angry because Elena was like asking her to pay for everything she had done for her, which means that she doesn't do anything for the mere act of being nice. I hate her.
-------
I was shocked when the judge decided that May Ling stay with the couple. Luckily, Bebe got her back and ran away. Everything the woman (I forgot her name) said in the trial was so dumb. I was cringing while reading it.
-------
I rate the book 4 out of 5 stars.

Milo | 6 comments "After the burning the soil is richer, and new things can grow. People are like that, too. They start over. They find a way."

Both in the novel and the miniseries, this was the passage that stood the most to me. This feeling that something good will eventually come out of bad places if it finds the right spark. And I need to mention the miniseries because there's one or two changes on the plot that makes me chill just from remembering it. I higlhly recommend you to watch it if you liked the book!

About the end of the story, I'm so so so glad Bebe reclaimed May Ling, the passage about her not crying when she was taken because she recognized her mother brings me a lot of inner peace, I hope they thrive in Canton.
For the Richardsons, I believe they just started paying for their sins, but I'm afraid they're already so soaked in the system's filthiness that they won't learn from their mistakes, and so does every other perfect house in Shaker, things will, unfortunatelly, remain the same, no matter how many times you burn it to the ground. Your only salvation is to keep running from there *ba dum tsssssss* (sorry for the lame stan joke but Shaker Heights is the perfect exemple of Badlands to me).
And about Mia and Pearl, I really wish someday they visit the Ryans and clear up the situation, not only because the Ryans are good people, but also I think Mia deserves to have this weight out of her shoulders, she was alone and afraid when she decided to run away with Pearl.

To finish, I want to thank Liv for creating this club and for everyone who joined and contributed, I loved the experience and look forward for our next read!

Valentina (fixyourheart) | 4 comments Sooo. I am sad but I really liked the book. I just started the series as well so let’s see!

I am so sad for Mia and Pearl. They didn’t deserve the way they were treated. Especially Pearl, I feel like she liked living there and was having a “regular” childhood for once.

Moody... hew. He revealed his true colours. I ended up liking Trip, while Lexie was just really selfish and self-absorbed (although I felt bad for her but she should not have used Pearl’s name. I knew this would end up messing up things!)

Mrs Richardson, well, I hated her. From the beginning to the end. The hypocrisy... and she was so vile. The typical person who does good things just to 1) be liked 2) expect something in return (and we saw that with her friend at the climic). Awful but so realistic in my opinion. There are so many people like that. I think she was characterised well. She way she treated Izzy was awful but I’ve known quite a few mothers just like that.

I just wish I knew what happened to Izzy. And I wish Mia would reconnect with her parents and introduce them to Pearl, I feel like she’s a very lonely teen who would benefit from a relationship with her grandparents.

Mia’s big secret was very surprising, I did not see that coming. And the whole May Ling storyline was moving and complicated. Overall I liked the book and the prose, very captivating. The characters were well written and had depth. As a reader, I have nothing to complain other then the obvious curiosity after reading the ending
