As a west coaster transplanted to the east coast (hopefully temporarily...), it is always interesting to read other's perception of this contrast. Ironically, one of the things I miss most is the food!

As far as the book goes, I am enjoying it. Dear Mr. Knightley was one of the best books I read last year and I love the way you connect so quickly to the characters. What a gift the author has!

Katherine Reay (goodreadscomkatherine_reay) | 6 comments All the comments regarding Lizzy going home were right in line with my thoughts -- I do feel that often we can't move forward until we have the courage to face the past. That said, Lizzy didn't have that courage at the beginning. She went home with great reluctance and really a selfish motivation -- but I think that is the case too sometimes. God has bigger plans (well, doesn't he always) for us than we do for ourselves.

Also, her stumbling in the kitchen was a reflection of her separation. Her character and struggle was inspired by C.S. Lewis's The Four Loves. Lizzy had cut out all four loves and was putting them back in through the novel -- and in the proper order -- and the ties needed to be close enough to compel her to stay and see it through. Her journey was by no means complete at the end but I feel we left her on solid ground.

Thanks again for reading L&J and letting me chime in!
