SOLVED. YA Fantasy book about a boy who can gain different powers based on stones. [s]

So I bought my nephew a book about 4 years ago. His mother moved him away from us a few months ago and he lost the book in the process. We bounded of books and that was the first book I ever bought for him, so he was a little hurt that he lost it. Anyways his birthday is coming up and I wanted to send him a copy of it qlong with some more grown up fantasy novels. But I can't for thw life of me find anything that looks or sound like the one I got for him and I could use some help. The plot basically is that a fantasy world has people who can absorb or channel magoc though certain stones. Like granite makes people super strong, soapstone lets the run fast or something. Any ways, the main character has the ability to use every stone and is used by his government to fight a neighboring kingdom. It's not mistborn. Im pretty sure the first book has something related to rocks or stones in the title. Please help!
