SOLVED. children book with a dragon, protagonist is called Cameron [s]

I'm trying to find a book I read in middle school, around 2007 so must have been published some time before then. The main character is called cameron, I think he was unhappy because his family moved house and his brother went on holiday with friends while he couldn't go.
He wonders into somewhere underground I think it's a sewer or something similar. He finds a dragon, who's name I can't remember but I think it was something with 'fire' in the name.

**SPOILERS AHEAD**

Cameron slowly makes friends with the dragon who has a hard of treasure and a dragon egg. Later in the book the dragon egg is hatching but is going to cut itself on the egg shell which will kill it. There's some kind of law with dragons that prevents the mother helping but the boy is allowed to. The catch is if the dragon egg cuts him it is deadly to humans. The boy saves the hatching dragon baby and as a thank you the dragon mother names the baby along the lines of Camofire after Cameron.

I can't really remember any other details but would love to find the book and read it again, I've tried searching google but there's just too many books about dragons.

Of course! I sorted by 'Posts' instead of the default 'Last activity'. Just click 'posts' at the top of the columns when you're looking at the 'Unsolved: One speficic book page' and it should order them by number of posts instead - there's about 50 pages of threads with only the OP's original comment.

Dragon's Tear has a lonely boy named Cam living in a small town and a dragon egg about to hatch. Pub 2002. I haven't read it and there aren't reviews that reveal plot, so I can't offer much else as far as plot.

Ooh, good find, Monica! I didn't think to search for 'Cam' instead of 'Cameron'.

Here's a Books for Keeps review - it's brief, but it mentions that the dragon's name is 'Dracofir', which ties in with Jack remembering that it might have had 'fire' in it.
