Roberta (Bobbie) Swain is referred to as a monster by several people in the story. Would you agree? Was there a way to have taken her down? If so, by whom?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2993 comments Yes, she was a psychopath and the only way to take her down was to kill her. She held that town in a death grip and no one would defy her.

Bobbie was cagey and a master at playing people against each other. Her connections were dangerous and powerful so I understood why the town was fearful of her and her family. Paul Swain was the only one who could have gone toe-to-toe with her and she neutralized him. She got Victoria killed. Yes, she was definitely a monster.

The only way to have taken her down was to leave town and do it. Jon was the one who could have done it but would have needed to move his uncle and aunt out of town. But, he was too focused on vengeance. The ATF had tunnel vision and should have involved the FBI.

Robin (robinmy) | 2478 comments I was kind of surprised she could keep a grip on the town for so many years. With 400 people in the town, there must have been many people who knew she had taken over her brother's operation. I agree that anyone who wanted to try to take her down would have to make sure that their family was somewhere out of town.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 909 comments I was surprised too, Robin. Why didn't some of the townspeople get together and come up with a plan to take her down. They knew what she was doing.

Melissa (melissasd) | 676 comments She was most definitely a monster. I think since Omar was a training sniper he could have easily taken her out, but that would have ruined ATFs case.
