He didn't know that Lucy was a soon to be FBI Agent and that she really knew her stuff. That he discounted her story was not suspicious to me at that time. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Supposedly, there were no missing persons reported in the area. I just figured when they found the body, Lucy would be proven correct.
I was immediately suspicious. He didn’t ask enough questions of Lucy to figure out who she was and if she could be credible. He dismissed everything she said without giving her the benefit of doubt as a good investigator would. I wasn’t sure if he was inept or corrupt but I leaned toward the latter because he was so rude about it. There was zero objectivity here.
I figured Weddle was a good-old-boy who thought the little lady didn't know what she was talking about. He talked down to her and didn't take her seriously. I didn't think of the possibility of him knowing about the body until they returned to the mine and found that the body had disappeared. Then I started thinking that Weddle may have had something to do with it.
I know that Lucy was upset about Sean and shocked to find a body, but why didn't she photograph the body and the scene with her cell phone?
Good question, Anita. I think documenting the scene would be step one of the investigation. Of course, she didn't know at the time that she would be the person doing the investigating. She thought the cops would be handling it.
Cell phone service isn’t required for the camera to work, right? I had a similar thought that she should have captured it on her camera. We had smartphones in 2011, right?
I was immediately suspicious of Weddle when he didn't ask her more questions. He didn't know her background but should have questioned her anyway. I thought she should have taken a picture at the very least also.
I thought it was just the attitude of a small town cop dismissing someone he did not know who was acting like she knew what she was talking about and making him look bad.I give Lucy a pass for not taking pictures because she wouldn't have known that Weddle would blow her off like he did. Nor did she know that the body would disappear.
