fantasy/sci-fi collection of short stories, one story was about settlers on a planet they thought was uninhabited even though there were buildings that seemed to be abandoned but they found out later that the trees they had cut down were actually the children of the sentient natives who took their revenge on the settlers for murdering their children, another story was about a creature, i think based on an old folk tale, that looked like a piece of paper litter blowing in the wind but when it hit the windshield of a car the person saw a mouth and teeth, and if they saw it they’d be dead soon...there might have been various authors. i thought one author was mercedes lacky but i’m not positive. i think i read it in the late 90s, but could have been a little before or after.
