Great book! Great charac-that's a lie. I could accept every characters decision because they did those based on their motivation or their characteristics. However, Daisy is the one adverse thing that happened to Gatsby and the book-okay, fine she was important to the book. She seemed sweet and innocent, however, threw Gatsby under the bus when he didn't turn out to be a "GENTLEMAN." He'd become rich and put his life on risk all for his true love Daisy; yet, she was inconsiderate and anything but loyal to him.
Moving on to the overall book, I was amazed by the variety of symbols and themes that the author choose to incorporate. For example, the bill board in the valley of ashes-that Nick somehow manages to notice all the time-symbolized how the working class suffered. Next, even though I'm not a fan of imagery, I really enjoyed the ones that this author used because I could visualize New York City and Gatsby's eminent parties during the Jazz age.
Finally, the only reason I give this book a four is because Gatsby dies at the end, which was truly tragic. Though Fitzgerald withholds Gatsby of his true love and dream to show how people in the lower class aren't able to make it to the top, I personally think Gatsby shouldn't have gotten that ending. Overall, this was an exceptional book that did an amazing job on incorporating the many themes of the early nineteenth century, while still managing to develop a story with characters (not Daisy) the readers will like.
