i checked out this hardcover book from the library's YA section in late 2018/early 2019. i think it was published somewhat recently, at least in the 21st century. i think the title had "blue" in it and the cover was blue. the author was female. i didnt finish the book, but when i stopped reading the main character (lizzy) was playing in the woods with a boy she made friends with that was a neighbor of her uncle's.

^^^ no sorry thats not it but it is similar. i think the boy she made friends with in the woods was disabled in some way, too. her uncle's house was described as colorful and eccentric and he lived alone.
