YA? book. Translation of ancient script/ book in rare language, old Lady (fortune teller?) who is translator says it might be an ancient romance, then she dies? before she can send it to main female character. Old lady has pet bird. Read around 2019-2020.

I think I read this book within the last year, and I remember that there was a book in some rare ancient language that only this older lady, who I think does fortune-reading and has a pet bird, can translate. She says that it might be ancient romance, and I think she is killed by some supernatural force before she can finish sending the translation to the main character, who I am sure is female. I think it may have had something to do with Atlantis or mermaids. I am fairly sure that the main character has a boyfriend, but I don't remember much about him.

This sounds very much like Teardrop by Lauren Kate. The fortune-teller lady who translates the book is called Madame Blavatsky, and she is indeed killed.
