Jade Woodhouse | 5 comments turns out the name the grandma keeps calling her is the name of her older sister, who drowned before the girl was born which is why her parents don't want her swimming. they keep a plant with her name in memory.

read sometime between 2005-2010. potentially teens, but I was a child when I read it so not too sure.

Jade, what's the genre (which we need to add to the topic header) - e.g., YA/adult mystery, suspense?

S (notrowanfox) | 72 comments I don't remember much but i read a book like that. i think the girl drowned on a boat or something really young, although it might've been a young boy. i think it was a lake house nearby and she was alone while the parents were at home.

Rainbowheart | 28704 comments How old was the main girl in the story, a teenager or a younger child?

Did the grandmother have dementia, is that why she kept using the wrong name?

It's been at least a decade since I read the book so I can't remember :( my best estimate is she was around 12? it could be more of a tweens novel. I think it's very possible the grandmother had dementia though as she kept thinking the main character was the sister, not just mixing up their names.

Rainbowheart | 28704 comments Was the grandmother living with the girl's family?

Or were they visiting the grandma at her house?

Or were they on a vacation, like at a summer lake house?
