to merge or not to merge?

So this novella was originally published only in a box set:

Subsequently, the author announced that she would publish it on its own, and it will be released as this kindle edition in Feb. The author also released a cover image on her website, which is where the format-less edition got its cover.

So my question is this. Which edition do I merge the format-less edition with? The box set, where those users who read it undoubtedly got it from? Or the to-be-published single novella edition? Of note, I think, is that the Amazon edition has in its description this proviso:

Please note: This is an expanded and revised version of the title originally published in the 2014 Kiss of Christmas Magic boxed set.

So I'm guessing the author would probably prefer that the reviews she's racked up so far are attached to the old box set, not her unpublished new one. But I could argue it the other way, too. I need a second opinion. Thanks!

Merge with the closest match. In this case, I think that's the Kindle edition, not the box set.
