Ilona | 4698 comments Currently reading Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by Caroline Criado Perez. So far it's just a summary of facts (I get the point of it, but it is also a bit boring), but I just at the beginning, so hopefully the writing will improve.

PattyMacDotComma I always enjoy the adventures of Aussie author Sulari Gentill's wealthy artist Rowland Sinclair and his colourful friends in 1930s Australia. In A Dangerous Language, they attempt to warn the government about what the Nazis are really up to. Loved it!

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 2389 comments I just looked at my last posting (#160) and had to chuckle to myself. I despised the 74 pages of One Hundred Years of Solitude and DNF'd it. The first 25-30 pages worked for me. It all went downhill afterward, however!

I am currently finishing The Relentless Moon (Lady Astronaut #3) by Mary Robinette Kowal and absolutely loving it just as much as I did #1 and #2!! I believe I might love anything she writes! Next up is finishing Long Walk Out of the Woods: A Physician's Story of Addiction, Depression, Hope, and Recovery for an all-University read for which the discussion group meets weekly.

After that The Angel of Darkness: Book 2 of the Alienist Dr. Laszlo Kreizler #2) by Caleb Carr, The Grace of Kings (Dandelion Dynasty #1) by Ken Liu, and China Rich Girlfriend. Once those are done I will continue with White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism, Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You, The Souls of Black Folk, How to Be an Antiracist, and Learning Race, Learning Place: Shaping Racial Identities and Ideas in African American Childhoods.

PattyMacDotComma Kingdom of the Blind by Louise Penny took me back to Three Pines, the remote, snowy village in Quebec which seems to have more than its share of murderous events! (No wonder I love it.)

Marleen | 957 comments I started two new books this week: The Weird: A Compendium of Strange and Dark Stories, a very big story collection that feels perfect for October, and The Hobbit, or There and Back Again, of which I’ve read more than half years ago, but I never finished and I’m starting over now to read it properly this time.

Karin Brimicombe | 242 comments since i can never read just 1 book , I do a list each month -based on my choices and challenges I have . October has me with a minimum of 31 to be read , progress is 14/31 so far . I just find that some authors are better than others and I can breeze through them quicker .

message 192: by Woman Reading (new)

Woman Reading (is away exploring) | 392 comments I'm now completely caught up in Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson world, as I've finished Burn Bright (Alpha & Omega, #5; Mercy Thompson World - Complete, #15) by Patricia Briggs Burn Bright #5. Yes, it would have been more impactful if I had read A&O within its proper sequence of Mercy's world, but I had binge read them so it's fine.

PattyMacDotComma Michelle Obama is an excellent example of "Nevertheless, she persisted", which has become a feminist cry.

In her memoir, Becoming, she takes us from Chicago's Southside to Ivy League universities to the White House. Great read, great audio as well.
