Kim (kimkienzle) I’m reading Call Us What We Carry by Amanda Gorman and I love her way with words and how she expresses language. She writes beautifully. I’m also reading Shuggie Bain which is gritty and sad but has very compelling characters. Set in Scotland, which is one of my favorite places in the world. I’m listening to Hell of a Book by Jason Mott and really enjoying that as well. The narrators are excellent and the story timely and important.

PattyMacDotComma Women's words - finally found? Imaginative Aussie author Pip Williams's young character, Esme, wants to put together The Dictionary of Lost Words. Why were all the ignored words for, by, and about women considered dirty? (Many still are.)

MaKenzi Reckless Girls by Rachel Hawkins

Half way through the book and it’s good so far! There’s been a little action/thrill but I’m waiting for the plot thickens, it feels like it’s coming up soon!

message 1864: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) | 16 comments I just finished Donner Dinner Party by Nathan Hale .. I've always been interested in the Donner party, but I didn't think this would be the first book I'd read about it. It's a different format than I'm used to but I enjoyed it quite a bit. I would read more by this author.

Donner Dinner Party (Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales, #3) by Nathan Hale

message 1870: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma Jeffery Deaver's short story, Captivated, is a prequel to his Colter Shaw series. Shaw is using some old-school tactics - actual maps and interviews - to find a missing wife.
Captivated (Colter Shaw, #0.5) by Jeffery Deaver 3.5★ Link to my review of Captivated

message 1871: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma I loved Aussie author Christian White's latest novel Wild Place. The local Neighbourhood Watch group gets a little too active during the 1989 Christmas holidays when a teen disappears.

Melissa (crafteme) | 201 comments I'm reading, Ready Player One by Ernest Kline. It was highly recommended by my son, oh about 5 years ago. Just getting around to it now and I'm glad I did. Definitely, a totally different premise than any other book I've ever read and so far it's fun!

message 1886: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma How disappointing. I have enjoyed many of Aussie author Di Morrissey's historical fiction novels, but this contemporary one, Before the Storm, seems embarrassingly amaeurish as well as preachy. Could do better.

message 1896: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma I have missed Mick Herron's spies, the Slow Horses. These two novellas slot neatly into his much-loved Slough House series but can be enjoyed together without reading the rest.

The List is #2.5 and shows John Bachelor doing 'the milk run', babysitting retired, elderly spooks. Tricky!
The List (Slough House, #2.5) by Mick Herron 4.5★ My review of The List

The Drop is #5.5 and follows the action from The List. Old-school tricks are recognised by old-school spooks!
The Drop (Slough House, #5.5) by Mick Herron 4.5★ My review of The Drop

These are also available as a single book.
