SOLVED. Children's / YA book about a family with several adopted children from multiple racial backgrounds. [s]

I read this book in the mid-nineties through my elementary school library. It was the story of a husband and wife and they adopted several children, at least five. I believe it was a chapter book.

I always thought the title was something about a drum, but I recently was led to another series I read at the time that had "Drum" in the title, so I wonder if that might be a case of transference.
