SOLVED. Astrologist father is transported somewhere, kids meet three spirit ladies, there is a darkness taking over other worlds. A bunch of houses, a large brain.

I read this book a few years ago. I think it was sort of geared for youth or young adults maybe. I know the father is maybe an astrologer or something and is somehow transported somewhere and then the kids end up meeting three spirit ladies and go with them (maybe two different sets of kids of different ages) and are shown little bits of the puzzle at a time but there is a darkness taking over other worlds and they visit some of them. One of them has a bunch of houses the same and I think someone dribbling or kicking a ball whose mother rushes her inside. Then there is a building they go to and some sort of mental tug of war goes on and there is a large brain or something.
