I'm not sure if any of you take part in this challenge but I think it'll be interesting to share your progress as you go. What do you think?

How exactly you want to do this? each of participant copy and update the image as they progress or be more detail and include the book that corresponded to the achievements?

It would be fun to have details and see the books but that would mean writing down each of the challenge which I am too lazy to do haha! Or is there anywhere we can copy and paste the items on the list? Or would you be nice enough to write down the list in the first post? :)

P.S.: Shy, congrats on your "mod-ness" :D

Sherryl (salian) | 19 comments What happens if you read a book that checks off more than one of the challenges?

Example: I just finished a (1) non-fiction book by (2) an author I've never read before.

Thank you so much anne!! Are you going to take part in this challenge as well?

warhawke wrote: "P.S.: Shy, congrats on your "mod-ness" :D "

First and foremost, thank you but I suddenly have no idea what I'm going to do here. So, I welcome any suggestions on how to improve the group and the activity that you think suit for the members here :D

Sherryl wrote: "What happens if you read a book that checks off more than one of the challenges?"

It depends on your personal preference. If you want it to be more challenging, you can surely choose different book for each requirement in the list.

I have a few in mind. I'll gather my thoughts and maybe start a suggestion tread later and see what others think about it too :)

............

Oh by the way guys, I wasn't going to do this challenge, but since it's been brought up, I'm kind of excited with this! I'm not going to stress myself though and just read whatever I want and see if applies ✓

I'm with warhawke on this one. I'm just gonna check once in a while if any of the books I read applies to the list.

Perfect!! I can't wait to see what you have in mind and I seriously hope that everyone else can contribute as well :D

I'm with you guys about this as well. My main aim is to reduce my TBR pile and coincidentally, most of books on my shelves can be used for this challenge. so why not kill two birds with one stone, right?

By the way, do you guys this it'll be better for each member that want to participate to start a new thread with their list?

Shy wrote: "By the way, do you guys this it'll be better for each member that want to participate to start a new thread with their list?"

Personally, I prefer if everyone just post it here because it's easier to check everyone's progress that way.

I'm thinking for myself, I want to copy my previous achievement when I add new post for new achievements. So I have everything on the latest post for easy reference.

For example:
Previously achieved:
1.
2.
3.

Newly achieved:
4.
5.

When things started to get too long, just use spoiler function like anne did up there :)

Nice idea but won't it be a bit messy especially when people begin to comment on other's progress? I don't have any problem with it though if everyone think it isn't a big deal. Otherwise, I can make this a sticky post and other people can start their own thread with their personal progress.

Let me know!

message 12: by Georgette (new)

Georgette (tarlia) | 28 comments I'm taking this challenge at a one book per item basis, cept for the trilogy category which is three books, making the total of books to read this year = 52.

Completed:
- Finished in a day - The Griffin & Sabine Trilogy (Technically a trilogy but it was so easy, it felt like cheating to check the trilogy box)
- Made me cry - Looking for Alaska
- Written in Different Language - LAUTAN DI HUJUNG LORONG (Yah, originally written in English)

How about making the Popsugar RC a folder of its own and let people start their own threads? My other RC group isn't very focused on keeping track of people at this point. We use the group bookshelf to recommend books that fit under a certain category.

Oh, didn't know there's a Malay version for that book.

So, do we make our own thread? Because I want to start posting my progress too :)

Look up Fixi Verso, which is the arm under Amir Muhammad's publishing house Fixi that does translations. I've read the English version already and wanted to see how it compared. The translation is pretty good. At least they didn't try to "Malaysianise" the characters and locations like Enid Blyton translations from the 90's.

Sherryl (salian) | 19 comments I'm drawing a blank on 2 points:-
A book you were supposed to read in school but you didn’t
I'm not sure about you guys, but literature wasn't big in my school. Also, I've been out of school for years! Anybody remember what books we were supposed to read in school?

A book that takes place in your hometown
Anyone know of a book that took place in Miri, Sarawak?

I don't remember since in my school, we mostly learned from the text book. I think there were only about 1-2 books that we're required to read per year.

But I do remember having to read The Crucible and To Kill A Mockingbird in college and only read halfway. I wasn't a reader back then haha!

I read everything I was supposed to read in school and then some. I was picking out a new book in the library every day! And of course I read everything for literature class far ahead of us actually getting to the material. I'm blank on that too!

As for hometown, I asked around (hometown Kuching) and was recommended Children of the Monkey God, which I had to add into GR myself. It doesn't venture up to Miri from what I can tell. If I find one, I'll let you know.

Thanks for the information, Hikaoru! I didn't know that they have Phantom of the Opera in the syllabus right now, so that's what I'm going to choose :D

message 22: by Georgette (new)

Georgette (tarlia) | 28 comments We didn't have these reading lists in school. Only in English Lit for Form 4-5. We did Julius Caesar, Village By The Sea (Anita Desai), a selection of short stories, and poetry by Wordsworth, Blake and Frost. The syllabus could be vastly different now since my Form 4-5 days were in the early 90's.

Yen Lian | 43 comments How's everyone doing in the 2015 popsugar challenge?

Did you hit your target?
If you did, a big congratulations to you because it ain't easy fitting all the books you've read to the requirements. You did a great job and have a good reading repertoire in 2015!

Did you barely miss it? Or perhaps missed it by a mile?
Your effort of cultivating a reading habit is commendable because the challenge kept you going. Even if it's just a few books!

You didn't get the chance to participate?
Don't worry, the 2016 reading challenge is already up, go try it! It'll be fun :D
