It is a two book series. The first book is about a girl living with her family in the deserts as nomads and tending to camels. Along the way in the first book she is married off to a man. The second book continues the story. I believe that the second book maybe called 'helluva' or something close to it. During the second book the girl has a child and meets a lover on top of a roof top place within a city. And she uses a herb to keep from getting pregnant from her husband and lover. I read this book about 7 years ago. the book themselves are paper back and have beautiful colors on both.

Nicole, if it's not Waris Dirie's books -- do you remember if they were fiction or nonfiction? You said the girl was in a city in the second book...in her home country, or somewhere else? Do you remember anything else about the cover?

Sadly Desert Dawn is not the book. I know the books are fiction. I tired again to find the book and I found it with a simpler search. It is called Shabanu: Daughter of the Wind. Thank you for the help. I had to take a few days away from looking for it. It is a great read.
