Okay. This is a series of books that were short reads that I must have read over 30 years ago. There was a young man who was apprenticed to a magician or alchemist. The magician was very odd and the apprentice was not very keen on learning anything except how to make gold. I can't remember the name of any of the books in the series but I can remember bits and pieces of each book. In one they go on a trip with a young lady and the apprentice keeps calling her pet names in French but he keeps getting it wrong and calling her "his petite cabbage or duck". In another book he has somehow gotten a baby dragon (blue or green on the cover) which travels with him through out the series. In another he has ferrets that keep going "eep eep" which is in the title of that book. At one time the magician disappears and the apprentice goes to find him. There are demons which are more like mobsters. They were great fun to read and short. the covers always had the boy and the dragon on the front.

I wonder if OP is conflating two series because bits of this sound very much like the Myth series, and bits of it sound completely unfamiliar to me. Like I don't remember anything about ferrets or French. (I read the whole original series, but I think Asprin co-wrote more books later with Jodie Lynne Nye and I didn't read those.)

Thank you everyone! After checking out both the Myth series and the Ebenezum/Wuntvor books I believe that yes I have been mixing them up, but that is okay because I would love to read both series again.
I think the similar cover art (and many years since I have read them) had me confused.
