Oh and just wanted to give you the heads up that the hubs and I have finally started watching TWD!

We've got the first three seasons, so we polished off Season I and are now at the beginning of Season II (view spoiler)[(The part where Rick's son got shot after seeing the deer but pulled through...) (hide spoiler)].

That's some wild (and often gory and gruesome) stuff but I'm fascinated by the characters, their interactions and dynamics and the whole survival scenario in those circumstances. You can't help but wonder how you'd do if you found yourself in their shoes...

(And you thank the stars above and give thanks galore that you're not!)

This is what, for me, makes it so compelling.

You have a sense of who the characters were before and who they are now becoming (both by choice and by circumstance) in this terrifying and challenging scenario as the structures of civilized society have fallen into ruin...

It's quite the examination of good and evil and all the shades in between as well as the question of what makes (and keeps) us human.

And here's the thing.

You think you know other people but you don't know how they would react or behave if they were put into this kind of situation as we see with (view spoiler)[Rick and his cop buddy, Shane. (hide spoiler)]

Choices get made and it's a slippery slope once you start going down a certain path...

I can already see how people are changing and growing to varying degrees and where that's going to produce future conflicts. What's wild is that these clashes are happening while potential, violent death is always ready and waiting...

Phew.

Not only do you have to contend with the undead but you've got to battle with some of the living too...

And when I heard the rumble of thunder, I knew. I looked at my husband and said, "NO! You've got to be kidding me! Now? NOW?!" Storms are often symbolic of bad times a' comin' so this one served a dual purpose.

A lot of people have an issue with Darabont's later season but I think he did a hell of a job with what he was given, and the character development was fantastic.
