Kitty | 320 comments Read this around 1993 it takes place in England where after some sort of artifact is found all machines stop working and the island England is on looses contact with the rest of the world.
I dont remember much about the second or third books. The first had a troupe of gypsies who were hardly affected by the lose of modern technology.

Sue Elleker | 1053 comments The 'Changes' trilogy by Peter Dickinson. Merlin is woken up, and England reverts to mediaeval times. The machines don't stop working, but everyone develops a hatred for them. The books are;
1. The Weathermonger (1968)
2. Heartsease (1969)
3. The Devil's Children (1970)

The Weathermonger for the link to the first book. And, btw, Amazon.com is coming out with an ebook of the 3 stories together. http://www.amazon.com/Changes-Trilogy...

Just an fyi for anyone wanting to read them. (And yes, I do suffer from mild OCD--I had to go and check to see if any were available just because the books looked so interesting.) However, if you have a Nook instead of a Kindle, you are SoL, cause B&N doesn't list the compilation.
