Petra | 2173 comments I've had a wonderful time taking part in this wonderful discussion. I've gotten so much more out of this story than I would have on my own. There are wonderful insights in this discussion that opened my eyes to the various possibilities.
This is the first short story by Charles Dickens that I've read and it's been a terrific introduction. I'm very much looking forward to reading more.

Thank you, Sara, for hosting this read and leading such a lively and interesting discussion. I've had a blast.

Stephen Lamb | 5 comments I have only just discovered this group on Goodreads and am delighted to have done so. Although I have read all of the novels of Charles Dickens, I have never read any of his short stories. This group has prompted me to discover them. To be Read at Dusk was a good place to start. I like the way that Dickens has written such a short piece with so many possible interpretations.

Sara (phantomswife) | 1529 comments Glad to have you here, Stephen. Several more short stories and then we begin our next novel. I have also read many of the Dickens novels, but I can assure you reading them one chapter at a time with this group is a different experience and might make you very happy to read at least some of them again.

Welcome to "Dickensians!" Stephen - I'm so glad you found us :) As Sara says, we have some more short stories coming up, specifically three more, and are currently reading the second of our choices, Hunted Down: By Charles Dickens - Illustrated.

I hope to see you over on the other thread, and also that you'll join in with our chapter-a-day next read of Little Dorrit. It's probably a very different approach to reading Charles Dickens from how you read it before!
