Sci Fi. Technologically advanced people live in huge towers. Primitive neanderthal-like people live on the land below which is similar to African plains/ savannahs. Primitive male is abducted (sleeping at base of tower?). Read in 1980s.

Possible spoilers ahead. I read this in the 1980s, book seemed like a 60s or 70s style story. Primitive neandertal-style man lived on the land similar to African plains or savannahs. There were huge towers dotted around the landscape in which technologically advanced people lived. The two worlds almost never interacted. A primitive was abducted (I think after falling asleep at the base of one of the towers) and taken in to be educated or habituated or something. The programming didn't work and he eventually couldn't take his new life and leap from the tower to his death. I think that's how it went. Thanks!!

Could it be Ringworld or one of its sequels? I've only read the first in the series, and some of it fits.
