Hi Sylvia, I'm pretty new here as well so I don't feel it's my place to welcome you. I'll just say hi 😎
Lee, are as much a groupite as any of us.Yeah, I do have an issue with referring to us as 'members'.
giggle*
Welcome, Sylvia, I hope you enjoy your time here. It has done nothing but rain, where I am. Apparently, Brian is to blame but my neighbour swears it isn't him.
Gonna wear my wellies and anorak today cuz, Carol. The storm names should alternate genders, apparently...
Haha, bloody feminists :) What was the old Oliver Reed joke he got a load of hate for it but if you break it down it is a brilliant joke."Feminism will never take off. Not while I'm in the kitchen!"
I have been away from Goodreads for a long time so will re-introduce myself. I'm Adam although I'm also the horror author Ash Hartwell so you all know. I have been reading horror since an early age - James Herbert The Rats was my conversion to the dark side. I loved the old Hammer House films and have continued that love to the present day.I'm looking forward to joining in some of the discussions in this group as a welcome distraction from writing. If you would like to know more about my publications then please ask as I won't be pushing it here. Thanks
Hello and nice to meet you! I live and work in London and like reading. Non-fiction is the latest family of books I enjoy reading. Recently I discovered Prime Reading and currently going through the mostly rated non fiction books there. My latest discovery is a book about Alexander Hamilton.
Regarding the question what do I grow: I have strawberries, roses, lavender and jasmine in my garden.
Just popping by to say hi. I am Elise and I have just started reading again after a long absence. I live on the south coast UK which is lovely in the summer, but is quite different during the winter months. I've had my kindle for a few years now and also listen to audiobooks while walking the dog.
Kath wrote: "Welcome to the group, Elise. Have a look around and don't be shy. Just join in wherever you like."Thank you :)
Benjamin wrote: "Welcome, Elise! I'm sure it can't be as bad as the North East..."hahaha! It can be pretty grim through the winter, but the summer more than makes up for it.
Hello, my name is John. I'm an American English teacher and Indie author ("The Language of Bears") living in Japan, but am nonetheless fixated upon British literature in general and police procedurals in particular. May I still join the group?
Patti (baconater) wrote: "Of course!Welcome, John!"Welcome John, enjoy! I was in Japan once - Tokyo - for less than 24 hours on business, but what an interesting place! I'll never forget the absolutely massive beer keller I was taken to (don't know what they are actually called), or the lowness of the ceilings on the underground platforms! Wish i had taken the opportunity to stay longer.
Hello everyone. I've been lurking here for a while, so long in fact, that I can't even remember if I've introduced myself or not, but I don't think that I have. Anyway, I hope that you don't mind me gatecrashing the party :-).I see that there's some good advice on offer in this group, and am glad to see that there are some fellow indie authors here (I write mostly ghost stories/uncanny fiction, always with a twist, and often with a liberal sprinkling of dry humour). As for what I read, my taste is pretty wide, but I tend to opt for the type of material I've mentioned already, as well as historical fiction and history. For those of you here who do write, I'd like to ask you the following question: have you experienced anything of an especially peculiar nature that has prompted you to write a particular scene, or story?
Hi, HE. I sometimes includes dreams in my work. I'll make it the character's dream but usually it's been mine first!
Welcome, HE! I write ghost stories/weird fiction as well, but they're sadly not based on personal experience (unless especially vivid dreams happen to count).
Kath wrote: "Hi, HE. I sometimes includes dreams in my work. I'll make it the character's dream but usually it's been mine first!"Hi Kath. Interesting to see that you too put dreams to good use. On one occasion, a nightmare was so vivid and detailed that it served as the basis for an entire story. By the way, how's this year's Christmas pudding coming along? :-)
Benjamin wrote: "Welcome, HE! I write ghost stories/weird fiction as well, but they're sadly not based on personal experience (unless especially vivid dreams happen to count)."Hi Benjamin. I'll allow especially vivid dreams to count :-). Mind you, it's probably just as well that your ghost stories aren't based upon personal experience, as they're usually not all that pleasant. Although I would not profess to believe in ghosts and the supernatural, there was one incident that occurred a couple of months ago, the like of which neither I, nor my wife, had experienced before, and for which we can find no rational explanation. It was of the sort that people would commonly characterise as being caused by a ghost.

Just the two of us for Christmas dinner this year so we're breaking with tradition and having a raspberry and apple crumble for pud. Just because we can!

Raspberry and apple crumble? Divine! You can't go wrong with a good crumble, but I'm running low on frozen blackberries now. Still a fair drop of sloe gin remaining though (for the time being). :-)
We have home grown raspberries and apples in the freezer. Our home made tipple of choice this year is raspberry vodka. Yes, the raspberries did very well!
We've still got frozen blackberries - going down very well in the home made biscuits. Saving home grown broad beans for Christmas!

Hi everyone,I' m Sweetly ( pen name - Sarah) from India. I am an entrepreneur by passion in Medical Field - UK based for the past 12 years and by profession I am a teacher. I am an avid reader of books.
I am basically here as a flashlight to help my best pal. Also I am here to learn a lot from all established authors and their esteemed works.
I do plan to eventually come out with a self-published book in Children's Literature in November of 2018 and an enchanting and thought-provoking script that has the potential to be made into a movie. I enjoy gardening and I am currently pursuing a new hobby knitting.
Looking forward for help and guidance.
:-)
Hi All!Eric Tomlinson (Oz), writing as EH Howard (most of the time …)
like many of you appear to be. I have been told to look at goodreads and engage, but I’ve been struggling to find groups/ discussions to engage with. Tried a Narnia discussion, but that seemed to be a few hundred people saying ‘I like Narnia’, whilst I do like Narnia, I think a discussion is slightly more than this.
Been using a kindle since version 1 with the keyboard. I am now on third one (a paperwhite) I’ve stayed away from colour screens because I love the insanely long battery life I get without it. Plus I don’t need another browser I can distract myself with. The advantage of the kindle / long battery life is I can stray over to my beloved Greek islands on long ferry boat rides without fear of running out of books or power.
Been a fantasy reader since 14 with JRR and CS at the top of my list. However, I confess to enjoying some modern vampire / witches stuff in Kim Harrison (Hollows) and Faith Hunter (Jane Yellowrock.) In honesty, I'll read just about anything. Once, when stranded in Yugoslavia many years before ebooks I’d read everything and ended up reading my passport.
Enough rambling from me, I have read the intro posts, and I will probably behave, promise.
Hello guys I'm a 21 year old Law student currently obtaining my degree from the University of London. However in my sparetime I enjoy indulging in the mind of the readers through writing. I have a love for true crime stories also myths. I was inspired by a number of events I've watched , read and learned over the years. Here is the synopsis of my first book in this series.Vermont is a supernatural/crime fiction based in a town called Unknown where the population is full of mystical creatures and there's no human existence. When a young New Yorker Diana McKenzie mysteriously gets turned into a vampire she meets an ancient woman called the Voodoo Queen who guides her to the Unknown town and helps her through her new fate. As Diana gets familiar with the strange town she bonds with a revolutionary detective to help solve a gruesome crime. This book is available on Amazon & Kindle Vermont
Hi,I'm a 73-year-old British guy just breaking into writing. My first novel, Grace's Turmoil, is a romance about older people. It became available on devinedestinies, com and Amazon just before Christmas. I love that my partially sighted wife, Ann, is able to read my books on her Kindle despite being unable to read printed books.
