Hello Derek and welcome, I hope you have a good time. I am fairly new to the group myself but everyone I have seen so far seems fun and friendly

To be honest, although I was a member of it, I hardly ever posted anything. It seems to be a lot more user-friendly on here.
There is a whole section for free books and stuff. If you look at the main group page, scroll down until you see the heading " FREE BOOKS ADD TO MONTHLY THREAD" and have a look at the threads there.

Hi guys,Just turned up here thanks to a link posted on Amazon's UK Kindle forum amidst its final death throes. I was wondering where some old friends had disappeared to and I'm guessing it's here!
Anyway I can see some of my old favourite threads have been given a new lease of life eg. 'Just finished, just started'.
Real name is Paul by the way.
Hi Victor/Paul - glad you grabbed the lifeline! There are new groups sprouting up all over the place now. Settle in and have a good look round.
Sorry about the name confusion. On the Amazon forum I have always been known as 'Victor Meldrew' - a curmudgeonly old git from the much missed BBC comedy series 'One Foot In The Grave'. So I set myself up as the same when I registered here but for some reason it insists on truncating it to just Victor.Anyway, whatever you decide to call me - I've been called far worse :)
haha Well, you might as well face the truth that you're just too long in the tooth. to understand these things :)
I'd just like to say hi to any new members migrating over from the closing Amazon forums. I think you'll find UKAKF a completely different kettle of haddock.
Haha, we have Whippersnapper here to. It was the words to the theme tune to 'One Foot In The Grave' though :)
Ah. Think I've only seen one or two episodes. Just gonna pop a link to Rosen's BookHippo thread in here.
It's a great resource for both readers looking for free and cheap books and for authors looking to get their books noticed by readers.
I can personally vouch for Rosen being a lovely person who has done so much for the indy author community. She also writes great books.
Have a look through the thread here.

I'm Peter. I'm a brand new author writing romance with mature characters, heroines that older readers can identify with. My debut novel 'Not Too Old for Love: Grace's Turmoil' is to be published as an eBook on 15th December. Now, I'm trying to get my head around Social media Marketing, which at the age of seventy-three is not easy :) Check me out on my blog if you like.

welcome aboard Petergiven your genre I hope you're off the 'happy ever after' as discussed below :-)
Hi and welcome Peter. Hope it all goes well, if you crack the social media marketing thing do let me into the secret!
Hello all,I'm Ben, and I'm a longtime reader but new to Kindle - my debut horror novel, Lamplight, has just been published as an ebook on October 6th, and I'm trying to get up to speed!
Any advice, anyone?
It's going to be a steep learning curve to get to grips with social media marketing. I guess once I make a start I'll pick it up bit by bit.
Benjamin, you don't say if you have a blog. I have a fairly basic blog and I post most weeks and sometimes do author or character interviews. But I'm not a natural blogger and so far only have the occasional visitor to the blog.
Thank you Kath!Peter, I don't have a blog, just a rather experimental twitter feed - @fragmentsoffear
Yours sounds well worth persisting with, though!
Hi Benjamin and welcome. I wish I could give you advice but I myself have not yet fine-tuned this craft so hopefully, you have better luck than I. I do remember one person telling me to keep writing and bring a book out once every month or two. Gives your readers less chance to forget about you. However, although I took that advice at the start I am starting to realise that may not work for everyone and am slowing my pace down myself as speed sometimes sacrifices quality. So I hope you find what works best for you.
Thanks, Jack.I'd gladly write a book a month if I could, but I fear they don't come quite that quickly!
Ah, do them in your own time. If you work to anybody else's time it becomes less fun and more of a chore. If you aren't enjoying what you are writing the chances are that will reflect on the page. I am sure you will do great. I like your title by the way.
I am new here. Love reading, am disabled so I don’t get to do much else. Why would I need an umbrella when it is still warm here, here being israel where I live, in Haifa.I will continue reading all your threads as they are interesting.
Sylvia.
