Occasionally we swap round;)

Good luck on your new venture Hiti. I hope it works out for you. I'm currently splitting my time with 9-5 Monday-Friday and trying to write my sci-fi series. There are plenty of learning curves if you're going solo (no publishing house/agent), but it's equally fun and fulfilling.

Unfortunately, I prefer writing to digital marketing, but the latter pays the bills.

Suspense spiritual thriller? Never read something like that. Will check it out.

Parag Khanna (paragkhanna) | 1 comments Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to say HI and quickly introduce myself before doing anything else.

My name is Parag Khanna, I have some experience as a geopolitical analyst and international relations advisor. I’ve also written a couple of books on these topics as it relates to both the political and business scenes.

I look forward to engaging with the group - both receiving and giving feedback, specially with the events related to the current state of world affairs, as well as the U.S. administration.

Thanks and hope you all have a great weekend.

Cheers,
Parag

Betty Viamontes | 2 comments Hello, I am a Cuban author who resides in Tampa, Florida. I have written three books (one has not been published yet). The first two "Waiting on Zapote Street" and "Candela's Secrets and Other Havana Stories" have excellent ratings on Amazon and Goodreads. I have noticed that recently, several UK readers have purchased "Waiting on Zapote Street." I love the UK. My husband and I have visited many times (England and Ireland, so far). My first book is based on the story of my family. My mother, who passed away in 2011, would always tell everyone: "One day, my daughter will write our story." She made me promise I would before she died. On April 26, 1980 when I was fifteen, my mother, my siblings and I boarded a shrimp boat off the coast of Mariel Port in Havana and headed for the United States to reunite with my father after almost twelve years of separation. Dad had left in 1968 with the goal of preparing the conditions for us to follow, but we were not allowed to leave. How long would you wait for the one you love? This is a story about the power of love, about hitting bottom and finding resiliency. It has been selected by a United Nations book club and multiple others. I hope you enjoy this and my second book. It is a pleasure to join you.
Here is the UK Amazon link for all my books, but for the ratings, look on the US Amazon site. https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_...

L.A. Kent | 3925 comments Welcome Betty, Hope you enjoy the group. i visited Tampa a few times, when at the end of some of my US business trip, and spent quite a few leisurely afternoons in the 'little Cuba' district with friends. It was great fun, the music drifting from the bars and in the squares was great!

Good luck with the books. You have an interesting story to say the least.

Roberta Franklin (goodreadscomroberta_franklin) | 23 comments Hi everybody,
I'm Roberta, I'm a newbie author, and I just got my first book published on Amazon! (It was published in London by Olympia Publishers!)

The Professor and the Bird by Roberta Franklin

This is all still very new and exciting to me, I'd hardly been familiar with Kindle itself, and now I've got a book up there...
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Professor-Bi...
It's an adventure romance with lots of action and fun and, of course, love and hot scenes; and it's got quite a special feature: the hero and heroine aren't only as different as can be, from different countries and backgrounds - but there's also an age difference of 30 years separating them! Or maybe that's exactly what draws them towards each other so much?
Besides writing I also love reading and watching movies, especially romance, comedy and mystery, but also a bit of horror once in a while. I love rock and rhythm & blues music and computer games, and I love travelling - I'm home literally everywhere in Europe, I grew up in Germany, I live in Greece now with my daughter, and my boyfriend lives in London!
I'm glad I've found this great group, and I hope I'll find lots of friends here, and be able to take part in many interesting discussions.

Michael (donmiguel) | 4 comments Hi All,

I'm a long-time benevolent lurker on Goodreads but fairly new member and forum contributor. Having travelled and worked around the U.K and various warmer climes, I'm now exiled in my hometown in the lingering winter of the North and squinting like a newborn mole-rat after spending the last three days (figuratively) chained to the keyboard in an attempt to hit a respectable word count before I can justify treating myself to an episode of Better Call Saul (season 2). I currently juggle parenthood with being a freelance translator and fledgling author. I plan to publish my virgin effort via KDP next month.
I love playing guitar, reading Elmore Leonard, dancing like nobody's watching and making killer guacamole, not guacamole-rats, though I may shoehorn them into a novel at some point...

Robert Jameson | 1 comments Hello everyone!

I'm Robert Jameson and I'm the author of numerous books - mainly non-fiction books - on a variety of subjects.

A common theme of many of my books, however, is the issue of how we can all improve our intelligent thinking capabilities through working to free our minds from prejudice.

And in order to encourage more free-thinking, I offer a wide variety of challenging thought-exercises to encourage people to question the politically-correct and 'acceptable' opinions of the society they live in.

To learn more about my work, please visit my website:

http://imos.org.uk/

And if you are interested in my work and in supporting my aims, please get in touch. I'm always grateful for any help I can get - and I may even have a book I can send you for free!

message 1838: by Marie (new)

Marie (craftymarie) | 23 comments Hi, I'm Marie. I've been on GoodReads since 2010 but only just started using it in earnest as it's pretty nifty being able to see how many books I read in a year.

I constantly read on my Kindle (surprised it has not worn out yet) and review books on NetGalley and Amazon.

Favourite genres are romance, crafts, gardening, general fiction. I enjoy a good fantasy although I boringly tend to re-read my faves over and over instead of new ones. Like a bit of Jeffrey Archer and sometimes Dan Brown when in the mood for something fun and action packed.

I really don't know anyone on here and feel like I'm just posting book reviews to myself so thought I'd check a few groups out.

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) Well you'll be very welcome here Marie and you'll soon get to suss us lot out and have some fun as well as the reading bits. Jeffrey Archer is one of my favourites too.

Thanks L.A. Always enough time to squeeze reading in! Looks like a great day today so perfect for doing some seed sowing and digging before reading in the sun.

B J Burton (bjburton) | 2680 comments Hi Marie. 'Perfect for seed sowing, digging and reading in the sun'!!!
Can you really be in the UK? Kath (whom you've just met) is a keen gardener and has a rule about sowing; the soil is only warm enough when you'd feel comfortable sitting your bare backside on it. Even here in balmy south Devon we're a long way from that happy state.
Good to have you with us.

message 1845: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Ah, but the alliums are often said to be best sown on the shortest day and harvested on the longest. Doesn't work here in the north but it's traditional to sow your onions on Boxing Day. Gets you out of the washing up, too!

message 1846: by B J (new)

B J Burton (bjburton) | 2680 comments I might prefer the washing up if it gets me out of the bare-backside test on Boxing Day.

There's an old saying that goes, 'Sow your wild oats at night. Pray for crop failure in the morning.'
