Hi - I'm Dominique. I live in the North of England and I write Young Adult novels currently only in the e-book format. At least, I thought I wrote YA novels until I noticed an online tick box saying 'New Adult'. I had no idea what this was and imagined it was code for erotica. And then I suddenly noticed a 'New Adult' book club on Goodreads and have joined it and been thoroughly set right! Trouble is, my series seems to span the two genres as my heroine starts at 16 and finishes up at 21. So do I have to individually assign a different genre to each book? And do you folks who sign up for New Adult books feel cheated when it turns out a bit tame for you? Opinions please!
Hi Dominique - sorry I can't help with the questions, but welcome to the group. There are lots of authors here - so it's only a question of time before you get some answers. x
Thanks for the welcome! With all this digital world, and endless choice, there are sub-sections within sub-sections and yet still there never seems exactly the right box to tick to sum up your book...
Hi, my name is Chris G. Wright, I'm new here (by "here" I also mean the world of self-publishing). The group--this thread especially--sounds like a fun place to be, unlike my current place on the globe.I'm currently in a train full of silent people who have their eyes fixed on their mobiles--I doubt they're all Goodreads members jumping in between threads--so, I'm traversing the Goodreads avenues in search of likeminded people who just like to trade a few words.
Chris
Hi Chris - welcome to the group. I think you'll find a good mixture of authors and readers here. Enjoy!

Looking forward to get to know everyone and share thoughts. Also, my daytime job is Digital Marketing, and my key focus is SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and PPC (Pay-Per-Click advertising). If anyone needs helpful tips with optimising their web page, or looking for keywords to bid on, send me a message. I'd be glad to help

The people on the train are probably glued to developments in US (bored with Brexit). Which gets me to wondering – on a semi-literary note – Is the USA to become Trumpton? If so, who does the President-Elect most resemble: Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble, or Grub?

Hi Sam.
Thanks for letting us in on that. Of course, at the moment whenever we pick up a newspaper it's like we are in an otherworldly fantasy, strange things happening. I'm not talking about the horrors we are seeing everywhere, but the utterly bizarre, whether in politics, or the need to know the minutiae of a celebrity's (or would-be celebrity's) life. If we read about it in a fantasy book we'd put the book down as being too preposterous.
On a more positive note, just think: in a few years, the bedside light you read your books by in Wales may well be powered by estuary current (an awful pun).

When they're glued with less important issues, like what one of the Kardashians wore on a night out and was TOO revealing (as if they ever wear normal clothes), or what dumb thing Joey Essex quoted the wrong way, or how Scarlett Moffatt lost all that weight, then it becomes unsettling. We don't really see the real problems this world is facing.
As for Trumpton and the famous brigade, I can't decide which one of the puppets better represents the President-Elect. However, I'm more interested in the puppeteer.....

Hi, thanks for setting this up.I am Jean Paul Zogby, about to publish my first non fiction book. It is about time and how we percieve it. Why it flies when we are having fun and drags when we are bored.
I also compose soundtrack music for film and publishing a research paper in astrophysics.
During the day, I manage the construction of a multi million dollar hotel project.
HI I'm Viv and new to the group. I've always loved reading from when I was a kid. Books have been my companions through my highs and lows , my travels and my stays. While I have gone through different phases - adventure, crime thrillers etc, I now like books that are about people , about the human experience - be it fun, quirky, sad, lonely, joyful.
I like to talk about books to other people who like reading. This sounds like a fun group to be in.
Hi all. I'm new here - I've had a good reads account for ages but never done anything with it (doh). Anyway, I saw this group and thought it sounds right up my alley. So. Hi :)
Thanks PattiPatti (baconater) wrote: "A hearty welcome to our newest groupites."

There sure is a lot of it! I'm perched on the east coast north of Sydney, south of Brisbane. Hot summer here now.
Thanks for the welcome everyone!
Hi, Folks. My name is Richard French. I'm an American who's lived in Canada for more than 25 years. My home is now in the west part of Toronto. I write literary fiction and have 13 novels uploaded to kindle and amazon's CreateSpace. I have a goodreads author page where my work is listed. Best wishes to all, Richard
Welcome Richard. Enjoy yourself - there's loads to do. I went to Toronto once - a very pleasant place. One of the most striking memories I have of it though is that of a conversation I had with a guy I met at a party who had an incredible interest in dry stone walling. Especially that found in the Yorkshire and Derbyshire dales. He was such an enthusiast he reckoned he could distinguish a difference between the dry stone walls in Cornwall where I now live and those found further North! He didn't think there were many dry stone walls in Canada, especially Toronto!
Hi newbies!Could you please grab me a large double double next time you go out, Richard?
And 10 fancies, please.
Hi, Folks,Thanks for your welcome.
For Patti, There's always big lines at Tim Hortom's. I hardly ever go in.
Best to you, KIath.
For L. A. You're right about few stone walls in Toronto. Besides that, I come from New England. I've always loved the poems of R. Frost: "Something there is that doesn't love a wall...."
I'm looking forward to getting to know this forum.
Thanks again.
Moi! Hello everyone! My name is Kaisla and I'm from Helsinki, Finland :---) I have always loved reading and after I moved to France for a while (and still wanted to read without getting too much baggage for my return flight!), I started to use my Kindle and now I couldn't be without it! So, I thought that it'd be nice to be a part of this group! Happy New Year everyone!
