Anthony wrote: "Hello! My name is Anthony Puyo...I've just about dropped all television, except news and sport..."Hi Anthony, I'm new too. It's interesting how, with new technology, TV-watching is on the decline. It may well become a thing of the past!
Good Morning: Happy I found this group. I left the UK 27 years ago and live in Nova Scotia, Canada. However, all my family live in England and I have now decided to spend six months in each country. Now its a matter of which town or village to pick since my family are scattered. I have been writing fiction since 2012 and now have three novels and a new short story series. When I saw a UK kindle group that chats about wine and music it was a perfect for me. I have sold wine for 20 years and my new short story is based on a song that inspired me to start the series. I hope to write ten based on songs all in eBooks before publishing all of them in hard cover and paperback. Looking forward to chatting and you can have any of my books free in e-pub format.Mike
Hello Mike and welcome. I guess you'll be having a good time of it spending 6 months in different places around the UK! Maybe you should be thinking about getting a good regional long range weather forecast to help you decide where to choose. The wine inspiration for your series sounds interesting to say the least ! I wish you well with it.
L.A. wrote: "Hello Mike and welcome. I guess you'll be having a good time of it spending 6 months in different places around the UK! You may as well enjoy the summer in Canada and winter in the UK. Doesn't matter when you're in the UK, it'll piss down.Welcome, Michael!
At the moment (and I stress, at the moment!) that couldn't be more untrue. We haven't had any rain for a week and it's been really bright and sunny here for most of that time.
Hello Michael, funny you should mention Yorkshire, Cumbria and the Cotswolds, this year we, in Yorkshire, have had much better weather than my cousin who lives in the Cotswolds, as Patti said, it rains all over the country. Good luck with your books

Can get pretty misty in the winter, mind. Have you considered the south west? There are lots of great little vineyards down here producing some delightful wine. Just a thought! :) A long way from Cumbria and Yorkshire and family though...

I think it'll be the big S word round about then Patti - or maybe in January....... and this year it's gonna be 1976-type deeeeeeeeeeep!!

Sorry folks - I'll go hide in my atomic bunker if I'm right - so's you lot can't get hold of me!! ;-)
Seem to remember growing up in England the weather man would always predict - changeable. Thanks for all the tips. South-west is tempting
It was great to see the snow at Mevagissey harbour a couple of years back ! Only lasted one day then it was back to balmy days.
Hi - I am Helen; new to this group but not to Goodreads. I am an avid reader and also a writer. I love psychological thrillers and mysteries, Golden Retrievers and black coffee!
Welcome to Goodreads Helen and L.A. I'm living in sunny Queensland now but I seem to remember something about lots of holly berries and snow.If any authors are interested, I host a different author each week on my website at www.ritaleechapman.com. Always looking for new authors to interview - if you are interested you can contact me through the website.
Welcome to the group Helen, you will find that you have a lot in common with us, especially the golden retriever part !
Welcome Helen. Lots of threads for you to join in with - some mad - some relatively sensible. Enjoy.

Flo was just being subtle when she said there are some mad things to join in with here - completely bonkers would sometimes be true and utterly nutty at others, when we're not completely sane that is. (PS keep an eye out for the word police!)
Anita wrote: "Welcome to the group Helen, you will find that you have a lot in common with us, especially the golden retriever part !"And the Dudley part, and the black coffee part.
Introduce myself? Well okay.
I have just discovered this group which is a good thing as I read a lot of books. That's not only on my kindles, but on paper too. Like everyone else I have my own tastes which are sometimes quite eclectic. I don't read everything, for sometimes I find that I cannot.
Joseph Conrad for example I cannot read, though I know he is supposed to be an excellent author. There is something in his style that clashes so much with my brain chemistry that I cannot stand it. My loss I guess.
I also write books and have self-published three- I will take the liberty of putting my author page link at the bottom of this post. At the moment I am proofing a 'road' novel which I will bring out before Christmas. In addition to this I have written seven chapters of an historical novel which is going to be very long and may be finished next year.
So hello UK Kindle Forum; I shall stick around and see what's going on.

Hi John. Welcome to the group - join in and enjoy the company. What period of history will your novel cover?
Hi Flo.
Thank you. I hope that I will.
My historical novel will be called "The Collier's Daughter" and will be in three sections; 1894-97. 1902- 3 and 1914 to 1918.
I am toying with the idea of a 4th section around 1910 but it depends on what my researches turn up. It's based around real events you see, :)
Thank you. I hope that I will.

Hello, I am Arlene from the United States (Ohio). I just discovered this group as well. I love mysteries set in England and I'm looking forward to your discussions.

Sounds like my sort of book John...... are you Welsh?
Welcome Arlene. Enjoy the group - there are lots of threads and I'm sure you'll find many of them interesting....... mad, but interesting. :-)
Almost Flo. Cumbrian, therefore Cymru.
I lived in Wales once.
I lived in Wales once.
Thank you Kath
I think my mind was a bit mazed last night with too much time in front of a screen. I've actually written 8 chapters of the historical novel and am on 9 now.
37,967 words. Doesn't seem a lot!!!

Thank you LA. 6 more chapters to proof, which we are doing on paper, then they have to be done on the computer.
That will be four proof readings so it should be ironed out by then.
Flo - I was once Head Prefect at Pembroke Grammar and carried our school banner in the Gorsedd. So even closer.
Cymru am byth!

Never did think to find out how she came to be called Arlene, which I don't think is an English midlands names (said he probably about to be shot down in flames!)

Yayyy John - if not fully Welsh - you are an honorary Cymro ;-)

It is indeed Joy - or God's Country, as we call it! Do you know it?
Arlene wrote: "L.A. wrote: "Arlene wrote: "Hello, I am Arlene from the United States (Ohio). I just discovered this group as well. I love mysteries set in England and I'm looking forward to your discussions."Hi A..."Wow! I'm intrigued. Are you alike in appearance? Does Darlene enjoy reading too?
Hi L.A., we don't think we look alike. Darlene was living in another state (many years ago) and brought her children for a visit (age 2 & 3), they wanted to know why I looked like their mommy. First I did correct them that mommy looks like me (I'm the oldest) and second she never said anything because as I state we don't think we look alike (we are in denial). She loves to read and she is a wonderful writer. As long as I can remember she has written stories. As you can see from this post I can barely put together a sentence :)

I think I will too. Those white 'Shaggy Ink Cap' mushrooms in the lawn exploded deep purple liquid all over the grass before I had..." Yeuch! Sounds as though you may have a lucky escape. 2nd thought though - i wonder if the juice could have been used in a pasta sauce - like squid ink? No I'll stick to my first thought and the button mushrooms.
