Hello Jeanette, welcome to the group I'm just over the M1 from Rotherham so any local stuff, especially true crime I have an interest in, I will go and have a look at your books later today.

Hello everyone. Looking forward to meeting you and getting involved in some discussions. There look like some fun threads here and I'm always looking for book recommendations. I live in Devon and I read quite widely, but don't like anything too gruesome. Much too squeamish! That said, I love a good mystery and I'm a big fan of John le Carre.
Morning Kathy, pop over to the morning thread and meet a few more of the group, or the Jelly Baby thread and let us know your favourites.
Just a note to say "hello." There seem to be so many threads on Goodreads - it may take me a while to figure out how it all works!Warm wishes
Joy
Hi Joy and welcome. You're not wrong. I've only been here two years and I'm still finding topics to get involved with!

T4bsF (Call me Flo) wrote: "Welcome Joy - you'll soon get the hang of it and start enjoying the camaraderie." Hi Flo, yes, looking at the various threads the camaraderie really stands out.
Anita wrote: "Hello Joy, nice to meet you." Hello Anita, nice to meet someone with an unusual interest in fungi.
Kathy wrote: "Hi, Joy. Welcome. I'm new here too. Everyone's very friendly!" Hi Kathy, yes I was surprised to get so many "hellos" so quickly.
Joy wrote: "Anita wrote: "Hello Joy, nice to meet you." Hello Anita, nice to meet someone with an unusual interest in fungi."Sadly time doesn't allow me much time with fungi as I would like Joy, but I still manage to get a few new photos from time t time. Is it a subject that interests you Joy ?

Welcome Joy!"
Trust you ! ;)
Anita wrote: "Sadly time doesn't allow me much time with fungi as I would like Joy, but I still manage to get a few new photos from time t time. Is it a subject that interests you Joy ?"I find fungi interesting as they come in so many shapes and sizes, and often pop up in quite strange places.
Patti (baconater) wrote: "...Welcome Joy!"Thanks Patti! Just out of curiosity, what does 'baconator' after your name mean or refer to?

That's what first attracted me to them Joy, my first natural history book, a gift from my Grandfather when I was 11. It still sits on my bookshelf today and now my granddaughter enjoys looking through it even though it's way out of date and I have many more beautiful nature books.

Anita wrote: "That's what first attracted me to them Joy, my first natural history book, a gift from my Grandfather when I was 11..."What a lovely gift. I read somewhere that the largest (and possibly the oldest) organism in existence is a fungus in Oregon!
L.A. wrote: "Welcome Joy - i like Fungi too, cooked in butter, after careful selection."Hi Louise, with all this talk of fungi, would you believe it, about 20 huge oval-shaped mushrooms have appeared overnight in the garden.
Well I have to admit to being shocked, that no one has yet come out with the old chestnut of going to a party with a fun guy. It's not really a very good joke anyway.... in fact it's shitaki!
L.A. wrote: "Are they safe to eat? What will you do with them?"I think they are 'Shaggy Ink Caps' which I gather can be used to make ink...so I might try that.
There are two kinds of ink caps which look similar. One will make you pretty sick if you have alcohol at the same meal - it contains antabuse which is used to treat alcoholism. You are safe, even with the wrong one, so long as you don't drink. I've cooked ink caps often, both by themselves and with onions and garlic in soup. They're a prize!
I love home-made mushroom soup - with a splash or two of home made chilli sherry though. I guess I'll stick to chestnut button mushrooms!
L.A. wrote: "...I guess I'll stick to chestnut button mushrooms!"I think I will too. Those white 'Shaggy Ink Cap' mushrooms in the lawn exploded deep purple liquid all over the grass before I had the chance to pick them!
They need picking far earlier than that. Their other common name is Lawyer's Wig - the caps turn up at the ends when they're over-ripe.
Hello! My name is Anthony Puyo. I'm 38, married, have one daughter and another child on the way. I started reading fiction 3 years ago. I've just about dropped all television, except news and sports. I have two jobs, love good food, and whenever I can, I love to sample new beers. I like several genres, horror, mystery, crime, westerns and a combinations! Glad to be here, hope to make new friends and get some recommendations. But because of my busy schedule, I read slow. Thanks, everyone!
Patti (baconater) wrote: "Reading pace doesn't matter as long as you enjoy the journey.Welcome Anthony!"
Thank you. I'm currently reading a novella by Luke Smitherd. It's okay, but can't wait to start something else, something a little bit faster pace.
Hi Anthony, nice to meet you. There are loads of recommendations around the group, you will be spoilt for choice. When's baby due ? Hope your wife is well. We've just had 2 group babies born over the last few weeks and it will be lovely to have another.
