Hello all,Been lurking in various Goodreads corners for a while; this group seems like a relaxed and fun corner....
I'm Harsh, I love to read good crime fiction but will also happily read mysteries, thrillers, adventures, fantasies... not so keen on romance. I received a Kindle a few years ago as a gift, but have only recently started to use it with any serious enthusiasm (on my daily commute in and out of work)
I showed her the secrets of all my heart, delicately typed out in a short story about a golden coin, forbidden love and the mysteries of the world."You write like Paulo Coelho," she said.
"Who is Paulo Coelho," I replied, somewhat upset and saddened that someone wrote like me.
-------
I just messaged that true story to Paulo Coelho on Goodreads, I expect to be banished from here soon! lol
Hello folks. I'm Kerry. Mother of 1, eBay business owner, Stepmother of 4 ,owner of 2 cats (Dory and Nemo) guide dog owner of Barley and Defender of my husband's guide dog Judy. :-). I am a voracious reader of pretty much anything if it has a good title and draws me in. However, if you wanted me to pigeonhole myself I absolutely adore all but 2 of Stephen King's works, James Patterson, James Herbert, psychological thrillers, post-opocolyptic or anything horror-related. Not long since read Joe Hill's The Fireman and it was totally brilliant, a compulsive read. Made me howl with laughter and cry with sadness..Currently reading Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series and I'm loving it. Now the kindle Fire has Voice View on it, I've asked Santa (my Hubby) for 1 for Christmas. I could use my iphone and do at the moment but I just want a tablet for books in any format and nothing else. There's something very nice about leaving your phone upstairs and settling down with a good book whatever its format.
I play the flute, sing in a ladies' choir in my local area, am teaching myself to speak Spanish (inspired by our honeymoon last April) love travelling to hot sunny destinations and going to gigs. Anything else feel free to ask. Looking forward to getting to know you all and having a giggle.
Hi Kerry, nice to meet you. You will find that you have a lot in common to chat about, please make yourself at home.
Hi Chris. Welcome!Using a different name is going to be confusing but we'll get round it somehow.
I'll just call you 'hey you'. ;)
Hi, my name is Lara. I am originally from Alabama, but moved to Scotland. I love reading and writing and do both as often as I can. I am still new to goodreads and still trying to figure my way around. ;)I am looking forward to the group, discussions, and the book suggestions! It is nice to be here and I look forward to getting to know you all. Feel free to add me as a friend as I am always up for a chat on books or writing. :)
Welcome Lara, enjoy. Great to see another LA at Goodreads. Like Kath said, loads to do, be careful - there may not be enough time left over for the book talk!
Kath wrote: "Hi Lara! Nice to meet you. Have a look around. We chat on many topics, not just books!"Thank you for the welcome and nice to meet you as well. :)
L.A. wrote: "Welcome Lara, enjoy. Great to see another LA at Goodreads. Like Kath said, loads to do, be careful - there may not be enough time left over for the book talk!"Thank you for the welcome. Haha, I will keep that in mind when I am looking around. IT is always nice to meet another LA. :)
Anita wrote: "Hello Lara, lovely to meet you, please make yourself at home."Hello, it is lovely to meet you also and thank you for the welcome. :)
Hi L.A. not being cheeky, (well I am really), but with you being from a Southern American State, but now living in Scotland, how the devil do you understand one another? Lol
Hello,my name is Agnes from Surrey and I'm trying to get back into reading. I used to be an avid reader but in recent years I've succumbed to the addictive powers of Netflix and TV. I'm ashamed about how little I've been reading so I'm determined to fix it. I usually enjoy thrillers, mysteries and general fiction (even a bit of chic-lit), but I want to broaden my reading horizons so am willing to try different genres. I'm interested in trying a bit of fantasy and maybe Y, if it's not embarrassing to be 39 and read YA. I welcome any recommendations and hope to be able to join in some discussions and do some reviews that are better worded than this introduction ;)
I love YA myself - and I'm 67!Try Tim Arnot's Flick Carter series. Wanted
Hunted
Stranded
Grand stuff, these are.
Thanks for the welcome everyone. Jim you're right I should read whatever I want, any recommendations? What's the best book you've read this year
Agnes wrote: "Thanks for the welcome everyone. Jim you're right I should read whatever I want, any recommendations? What's the best book you've read this year"a good question, Para Handy is up there, reading one of the Rumpole omnibuses at the moment and enjoying it immensely.
Just enjoyed Working Title which is the latest of the Banned underground stories and enjoyed that.
I'm not methodical enough to keep notes :-)
Hi AllAs this is the introduction discussion it would be daft of me to say i'm new here, but as i'm daft, i'm new here :).
I write thriller and crime fiction, similar to Michael Connelly and James Patterson, but unfortunately not as well known, or known at all for that matter.
Dave
Thanks AnitaDo you (or anybody else) know where I can post to get advice about linking Kindle and paperback's together on Amazon? There is something weird going on with mine and it's driving me nuts.
Welcome Dave - not sure what you mean about linking Kindle and Paperbacks - but hope you can get it sorted. Meanwhile - have fun and get to know us :-)
Get onto Amazon's Author Central pages and email someone. I had that problem with my first book. They replied that it might take up to five days but if was only the next day that it was fixed.Oh, and welcome aboard!
Hello People of the UK Amazon Kindle Forum,I/we come in peace.
We are/I am (?) M.P. Peacock, who is actually two people, Maddy and Paul, a brother and sister writing team. We live in a very small town in East Sussex with attractive, panoramic views of the power station at Dungeness.
At the moment we are having a whinge about our so-called-friends (and so-called-family) who only bought our recently published book Murder on the Strike of Five: Russia 1917 when we put it on a 0.99p Kindle Countdown special offer.
We are also having a bit of an existential crisis about the ethics of reciprocal reviews.
TL:DR
How much pressure can we put on our nearest and dearest to read our book before someone calls social services?
I think - possibly - restrained to a chair with your book strapped to their noses might qualify as Social Service material
You could give them a gentle nudge by playing them the old Cat Stevens song, " I'm gonna get me a gun ", that could get a reaction, er! maybe?
Hi, I'm Christine from Liverpool but I live in Southampton. I read anything but I really like crime, romance and scifi. I'm looking forward to getting some good recommendations from the group.
Hi MP and Christine. Glad to have you with us. There's plenty of entertainment to be found in the Kindle Forum Discussion, so jump right in.
Stone here. I was actually advised to join Goodreads a year ago but I’ve twiddled my thumbs, prevaricated, and certainly beaten about the bush, so I actually set up my account just a few days ago. I’m retired, and have spent my entire working life with teenagers – both professionally (as a teacher) and voluntarily (Scouts and DofE) – and I actually miss them. So I read Young Adult fiction. In my youth I read science fiction but since leaving teaching in 2013 I’ve read close on 150 books, most of which are YA. I still occasionally read SF and also Terry Pratchett and P G Wodehouse when I’m in the mood.
I’ve also dabbled in writing and I wrote a few YA short stories in the early years of this century, but it’s only since retirement that I’ve had the time to write an actual novel. Stone (de Rouffignac) is actually my pen name. I do write non-fiction for an A level magazine using my real name and I try to keep those two aspects apart.
Reading the advice on here it seems I ought to be reviewing books and I’ve made a start. It might take me a while though, to review all those I’ve read recently.
I live with my wife – also an avid reader – on a canal boat so it would be fair to say that I’m “somewhere in England” but based in the West Midlands for the next six months or so.
So that’s me. I hope this isn’t too long!
Hi. The name of my first book will give a clue as to where I'm from: "The Rotherham Trunk Murder". When I was about 9 years old my grandma told me about a murder committed by someone that she knew. I found an account of the crime in a book in 2014, and was horrified to read that the man hanged for the crime was not the person that grandma had named as the murderer. I researched the case, uncovered a miscarriage of justice and wrote the book. Having got the writing bug, I have just published my second book "Edwin, Adelaide and George" where I give my own theory to explain the mysterious Adelaide Bartlett case. Both books available from Amazon. Read 5* reviews on Amazon.

Hello Stone. Hi Jeannette. That murder mystery is intriguing - especially as it's based on a real life case.
