David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Hi James. Welcome to the group.

All Canadians have to bring a gift of maple syrup, I'm afraid, as Patti informs us the stuff we eat is not the real thing.

message 102: by James (new)

James Joyce (james_patrick_joyce) It is true that real maple syrup is an amazing thing.

While you may not have access to real Canadian maple syrup, you can always get a look at real Canadian bear skins, by checking out the British Foot Guards.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Hiya James!

Which bit of Canada are you from? I'm from near Toronto.

And don't let these Brits fool you. They can get real Canadian maple syrup in the UK. They just don't know how to properly use it on bacon.

message 104: by James (new)

James Joyce (james_patrick_joyce) I'm from Kingston. Few hundred kilometres away.

message 105: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Few thousand, actually. I'm in Azerbaijan these days. :)

message 106: by James (new)

James Joyce (james_patrick_joyce) Ah, the cosmopolitan nature of the internet.

Anita | 3313 comments Hello David, Lyme Regis is beautiful, in fact it's my cousins favourite palace and they visit several times a year.
Welcome to the group.

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Hi, my name's Gareth and I'm from the the South Wales valleys (not that I've acquired the accent). I've been following the group for a few days and thought I would be polite and say hello.

I'm very much looking forward to contributing, but mostly looking forward to learning a lot ... especially about bacon.

So, nice to meet you and hopefully see you around the forums.

message 128: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Vernon | 61 comments I've spent more time on here then I have other book sites. I love it

message 129: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments The only trouble with this group Stu is that it's addictive, there are so many lovely people and very quickly you start to care about them and value their friendship, with all that you will find that you are always running late, never get anything done on time as you want a bit more time chatting to your pals.

There is a price to pay for everything I guess.

message 130: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Still, it counts as reading time. ;)

Cee Cee Houston (ceeceehouston) | 2 comments Thanks G.C and Anita for the warm welcome.

message 132: by Veronique (new)

Veronique Hi everyone
Another kindleholic here (well and bookholic too). My reading tastes are ecclectic to say the least, from crime thrillers to classics, fantasy/sci-fi to historical. Everything, pretty much.
Oh my name is Veronique and I live in London. For the Canadians out there, you might like to know that I lived one year in Victoria on Vancouver Island. Gorgeous place, and yes maple syrup is divine but I prefer it on pancakes :0)

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Hi Veronique, unfortunately the only place I've been in Canada was Fruitvale in BC. Awesome open countryside! Welcome to the forum btw!

message 134: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments Hi Veronique, welcome, its lovely to meet so many new members.

message 140: by John (new)

John Wakefield | 8 comments I got 'The Lost Empress' for this bookclub but want to finish 'The Three Hostages' by John Buchan first, near the end now.

message 141: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments The Lost Empress is very very good John. Have you read the first 3 novels ? If not then they are well worth reading. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

message 142: by John (new)

John Wakefield | 8 comments No, but I have just read the author saying they are stand alone story's so will read this one, than go back if I like. Thank you for your welcome.

message 146: by John (new)

John Sugden | 13 comments Hi there

John from North Yorkshire here. I've long been a book lover and treated myself to a Kindle last year. I'll never give up physical books but I liked the idea of portability for holidays/travel. Also I was taken with the idea of discovering new authors and self-publishing authors rather than the few that manage to make it through the traditional publishing system. It has been a bit of a lottery so far.

Having returned to GR after an absence I'm hoping to find somewhere to talk about my trials and errors, and hopefully get recommendations from others.

message 147: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments Hi John from North Yorks, I'm Anita from South Yorks, welcome to our group. Kindle is great for being able to take loads of books on your travels and even better for discovering new authors. I am sure you will find lots of people wanting to chat on here so pull up a chair. It's lovely to meet you.

message 148: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Hi John.

message 149: by John (new)

John Wakefield | 8 comments I have had my kindle for a while now & I love it. Still have a few bookcases for all the books I love, now I only have nice looking books eg Folio Society.

Thank you all for your welcome.

Am enjoying my first book for 'book of the mouth' - good fun so far.

message 150: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments I only have my natural history books and a few cherished copies of books that have been with me too long to get rid of now, all others I have on kindle, it's so easy and light and small enough to take anywhere.
What do you like reading ?
