I'll have to play around with the avatar. Sounds good. I'm off to go buy salmon...and run other fun errands. Have a nice afternoon and I'll check back later. Nice meeting you all.
You are now a member of the best group ever Grace ! I have Labradors, well just one right now, she's called Emma and was 3 last July. You are right about the snow and presents, they are all for Emma of course. I also have 2 young granddaughters who Think that all presents are for them, you can guess the result, paper everywhere ! Our daughter and son in law have a one year old cocker spaniel so there is never a dull moment round here. I have put a photo of Emma in the group photo section. Go rights to the bottom of the home page where it says "more photos" and you will see add photos, press on that and you can add your own pictures. Would love to see your Lab.

The other groups are all "reviewers looking to swap" and "get my book on sale" but this group actually has people talking about real stuff. I like it! .."Yep, a real group full of real people who love books.
Officially the most fun you can have and still keep your clothes on
has she got a foot spa do you think?Would she like a visit from the chiropodist?

Always closes her eyes right when I snap the photo. Your Emma as a puppy is so cute!

I agree with one of the comments after the story....there's got to be a moral to the story, but I'm also not sure what it is. Maybe...."if you can have ladies get naked and then they pay YOU, you're doing something right."
Grace wrote: "I agree with one of the comments after the story....there's got to be a moral to the story, but I'm also not sure what it is. ..."I keep hoping Tallis will explain it to me but he never does :-(

I could talk and look at Labradors all day long !
Hi! I am new to the whole group thing. I was given my paperwhite for Christmas in an attempt to get be back reading again. I have to say I will read just about anything. Since Christmas I have read Game of Thrones, Me Before You, Rivers of London, and a few of the Harry Potter books. I am like a few of you on here.... I have a to read list about 400-500 books long..... but yet I still have trouble deciding what to read. Any ideas on how to decide as I am at a loss now :-)
Hi and welcome, Ann!I find looking at our just finished, just started thread helps me. I see what others have enjoyed, then see if I've got it on my TBR.
Often I end up lengthening my TBR, mind.
Hello Ann, lovely to meet you. Pleased you are enjoying your paperwhite. I think we all suffer from" what shall I read next" I don't have any answers but I do know if you visit the just finished thread be warned, you will come away with even more books on your TBR list. Thanks GL, don't mind if I do.

Yes, it met with a very mixed reception, especially the casting. It's always a bit of a shock seeing someone playing a character who you consider to be an old friend and have already imagined, isn't it? Anna Maxwell Martin is a great actor but somehow I'd pictured Merrily as being a bit chubby. :-)
Funnily enough Richard I though exactly the same, Merrily should be a bit more Mummsy and less like Janes big sister. I admit that I didn't give it very long but I love the books so much I didn't want my enjoyment spoilt by the TVs series.
Hello Ann. If you like the Harry Potter books, did you try the Percy Jackson books? Not as good as Harry, but it's an option.
Hello, just introducing myself. I've been a member for two years, but not taken this site seriously enough. I had a bit of time on my hands so browsed the site and it looks fantastic! Intend to get more involved here.Kaye Bewley

Pam wrote: "I sort of picture Dawn French when I ' m reading those books."I laughed out loud at that image! There must be something in Phil Rickman's descriptions that have given us this idea of her being on the chubby side - I'll go back and read the first book again.
Anita's description of the TV Merrily is perfect - "Jane's big sister."
There must have been something for us all to think the same about Merrily. Would be interested if you find anything Jim. I didn't watch the program for very long so don't know if Gomer was in the tv program. Not sure who he would remind me of, well not a celebrity that is.

Funny you say that because that was what I thought!
Anita wrote: "The TV people obviously got it very wrong for us all to agree."Agreed. I would sympathise with the producers as their casting is inevitably going to come into conflict with the our preconceived image of important characters and so usually they are on a hiding to nothing with TV adaptations - but then Game of Thrones got it spot-on, so it can be done.
Not being a huge telly fan I can't really comment but I'm sure they usually do a good job. I do think they should stick to the books though. I also tried watching DCI banks but didn't like the way Alan Banks differed from the books so I stopped watching that too. I am rather strange when it comes to TV.
I'm John, been writing a long time, but only just making the transition towards putting my own things out there, and the reason for that is that I've got more than one job, and those jobs have been eating all my time. So, in order, there's the day job where I keep trucks on the road, there's the jobs where I'm the floor manager at a number of conventions (UK Games Expo, Dragonmeet, Wyntercon, Longcon), and then there's the writing on top of that.
I did the million words in a year challenge back in 2014, and started keeping a blog at the same time (www.millionwordman.blogspot.co.uk), but 2015 ate all the time I had and all the books I wrote in that year took till now to get edited. Still, here now, coming back to the world of writing and looking to find others like me.
Well done John, for not letting the world stop you from doing what you want. That shows determination and resilience. You'll get where you want to go to before long!Kaye
