It's funny, I had a very pleasant walk this morning, and was using the opportunity to get a story right in my head. I've got a nice mystery for Young Benor to deal with but it needs following through so that all participants are acting reasonably within their lights and at the same time I had Tallis Steelyard muttering that tomorrow's Friday and there ought to be a blog post.
But anyway, you know what it's like when you're on a walk, I'd been walking for over two hours (Arnside and then east, over the fairy steps (very Tolkienish) and hadn't seen a soul other than in Beetham.
But anyroadup I was walking along this quiet lane just out of Beetham and met a chap walking the other way and just said 'Good Morning.' And when he answered with 'Not a bad day either' he had that real South Westmoreland rural accent you don't hear much nowadays. Probably a tad older than me so nobbut a kid really
And it was interesting because I was walking through areas I've known for fifty years, but had never actually turned left there and walked through that hamlet.
And one of the lanes I walked down ran next to the river and a field bridge had been washed away, and part of the bank as well, so they'll have to do something soon or they won't have a lane either.

Oh, and please don't point and laugh at our Jim.

Pointing is rude. ;)

Neil Anderson | 16 comments I have several ideas for the next one, but have stalled on which to start and where, not least because I don't know hoe any of them end. That said, I didn't know how the first was going to end, so I just kept writing until it stopped!

which is why I for one never do it!

But just join in Neil, don't worry it, I find going for a walk and 'daydreaming' my way through the story can help :-)

waste of time. Anybody can produce some bald linear account which merely serves to disguise their lack of artistry.

I'm very worried about my pros now (actually my book isn't especially linear). Bowie used to write lines for songs then cut them up and put them together in random sequences. There's an idea for a book.

jamie farrow | 5 comments Hi, seems this is the place to introduce yourself. So im Jamie or Jay. I was introduce to good reads awhile ago but only just began to check in on the laptop. Turns out that theres a whole other side to goodreads that i was oblivious to. So im just navigating (badly most of the time) my way around and finding out new things. Would love to make some new friends, get some book recomendations (and possibly a goodread map if anyone has one spare) and leave a few reviews in the wake of my reading. so hi everybody, nice to meet you all!

That was Kath's way of saying 'bring your own bubble wrap'. She's not sharing.

I'll go with the pillows and tape method. I find it's more shock resitant then bubble wrap (especially after i pop all the bubbles)!

Richard Milton (richardmilton) | 8 comments Hello Everyone,

I've been on Goodreads for a few years but I've only just found my way here via a new friend who's a member. I read (and write) thrillers, mysteries and crime stories. I haven't so far murdered anyone other than on my typewriter, but I've got quite a few ideas in that direction.

I'm looking forward to meeting more thriller addicts here.

message 735: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sansmith19) | 2 comments Hello everyone. My name is Sandra. I've just joined and I'm hoping to read some books from recommendations I see.
I like all different types of book. My last books were Girl on the Train which I enjoyed and Custard Tarts and Broken Hearts. I read that because I grew up in Bermondsey.

I also really enjoyed Susan Howatch and her Starbridge series. I've been looking to read other authors who write about religion and the church but have yet to find any. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great

message 736: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments Hello Sandra, it's very nice to meet you and welcome you to our lovely club. I can't help you personally with books about the church but there is sure to be someone who can. Look forward to getting to know you.

Richard Milton (richardmilton) | 8 comments Hi Sandra,

I'm new here, too! Welcome. I don't know if this is your thing, but I've been reading Phil Rickman's dark thrillers about Merrily Watkins - she's a priest but also "Deliverance Minister" - C of E code for exorcist!

Richard

message 738: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments Sandra, you could start a thread in the book recommendations section to find the type of books you are looking for. Although I'm not very good with the technical side of things someone will soon tell you how to start a thread.

I tried to do some of the games on the thread, but they were hard and I gave up. I have a good sense of humor and I give up on things easily (see previous sentence). Nice to meet you all!

Richard, I love the Phill Rickmans books ! I wasn't too Keen on the TV program but that's just because I'm not a huge TV fan, no reflection on the cast members at all

I'm from the United States part of America. It's sort of like Canada but with less snow. But enough for my dog to play in. Her favorite game in the world is "you make a snow ball and launch it at me and then I'll go step on it and come back and bark wildly until you make another one." It's annoying, but free.

message 746: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I dunno. I think the east coast of the States has got lots more snow this year than Southern Ontario, where I'm from.

So my family tells me. I've not actually been home in ages.

Your dog sounds lovely!

message 747: by Grace (new)

Grace Risata | 46 comments My dog runs the house. She's a black Labrador about to turn 3 in March. You should see her at Christmas. She thinks every present is hers and demands to open them all. Then she has too many toys in front of her and cries because she doesn't know what to play with first. Spoiled rotten. Do you have any pets?

message 748: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Nope. I'd love pets but wouldn't be fair with the travelling life I lead.

Lots of wonderful critters in our group, though.

Have a look at our critter thread.

message 749: by Grace (new)

Grace Risata | 46 comments Wow. I guess I am in the right place. I joined a lot of other groups to promote my book, but this one seems the most fun. The other groups are all "reviewers looking to swap" and "get my book on sale" but this group actually has people talking about real stuff. I like it! Is there a way to add a picture of my dog like you have the bacon? Or does that show up everywhere and not just on this thread? I don't want my dog's picture on my author page. That would look weird. People would think she wrote the book. Although I did name at least 4 of my characters based off dogs I had in the past. :)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments You can add any photo you like as your avatar. It'll show everywhere you post in Goodreads.

Click on the pointy down arrow in the very top corner of any page and you'll get a drop menu. There's an 'edit profile' link in there.

You'll find the add a photo option there.
