Thanks everyone. I keep looking at threads and trying to think of something intelligent to contribute ... I will get there in the end!

Intelligent, Pam? That's where you're going wrong; you'll never fit in around here if you go posting something intelligent ;~)

Welcome, Pam.
Sorry I haven't popped in to welcome anyone of late, I've been up to my eyeballs with the start of a new school year. Hello and hearty welcome to anyone I've missed. I'm sure you've already been made to feel right at home.

Thanks all, that's definitely where I've been going wrong.
David wrote: "Hello - I'm new here. Thanks for setting it up."Yay!! You can never have too many Davids, welcome to you :-)
You and I could, as the Dastardly Duo, demonstrate Kath. I'll count you in. 1,2,3... off you go - video please.
Haha! No suitable camera, Anna, but I love the idea. I don't even have a smart phone. Mine's definitely a bit thick!
Hello. I joined Goodreads years ago but had not heard about this group. One Group I'm active in is the Review Group and when we do reviews we're asked to post on Amazon UK as well as the US site. I've noticed sometimes reviews posted on one is automatically posted on the other but not always.
Hi, Hock and welcome. I review but I'm not in a review group. I think the Amazons sometimes link up. If a book has no reviews yet on dot co dot uk they show the dot com reviews. I always post on both.
Anita wrote: "Hello Pam and David, a warm welcome for you here, it's lovely to meet you both."Thanks, Anita.
Hello. I'm Alison, I've been lurking in this group for a while without commenting (everyone seems to be a writer so it's a little scary) but thought it was about time I introduced myself.I would love to say I'm also a writer but unfortunately I have absolutely no imagination so just read a lot, write the odd review and feel jealous. I'll read pretty much anything providing it's fiction but at the moment I seem to be going through a young adult and fantasy phase. I do however chose my books based on the pretty picture on the front so it tends to lead to some random selections.
This seems like a great group so I hope you don't mind me hanging around.
Welcome to the group, Alison, especially so as a reader. No need to be scared of writers, honestly, most of us are readers too. :-)
I think I'm still living in the time before e readers and self publishing when a published author was a rare, mythical creature. It's unbelievable how common it is now. Or maybe I just spend too much time on Good Reads :-)
Certainly more published writers than before ereaders, and growing all the time. I guess you will have to sort the mythical from the ordinary.
Not everyone in the group is a writer, Alison. The only constant in the group is our love of books.
Lots of our writers are dead common... :D
better dead common than commonly dead!Welcome aboard Alison, readers are what it's all about, they're the important ones :-)
Welcome Alison. I started like you as a reader and occasional reviewer, then I joined this group. Be very afraid!
Thanks.I did consider a writing 101 course on WordPress a couple of weeks ago but pulled myself back in the nick of time. I still have memories of my horrendous attempts at creative writing at school.
If I did start writing everyone else should be afraid. It's scary how bad I am :D
Hello Alison, great to meet you ! Like yourself I only read and don't write so don't think you are alone in that. We do have loads of great authors and none of them are scary in the least, in fact they are nice people so please don't be afraid in the least. Please don't keep lurking, come and join us in any of the threads, we love getting to know new members. Really looking forward to getting to know you.
Hi Guys,Just thought I'd introduce myself since I became a member almost half an hour ago!
I'm Chris and am from Nottinghamshire. I adore reading and have around 20 books (mainly autos) on my bookshelf waiting to be read. I am getting through them slowly but my trouble is as soon as I finish a book I go looking on Amazon and BOOM! before I know it I've ordered another book or downloaded one to my Kindle (I really must stop doing that!).
Anyway, I'm currently reading 'The End of the Jesus Era' by Danail Hristov and look forward to reading the next bookclub book and sharing my thoughts.
Hi Chris from Nottinghamshire, welcome to the gang. Buying more books whilst still having a long to be read list is very common round here, you will fit right in.
Hi Alison and Chris.Working through a massive backlog of books myself, some have been on the shelves a l-o-o-ng time ...
Thanks Pam and hello Chris.I wish I had 20 books to be read. Last count was around 130 and I just bought another one yesterday because it was cheap. Must stay off Amazon.

Welcome Chris!"
Hey Patti, we both doing very well, we both said we would keep our new kindles tidy and we have don, you 177 and me 168, how good is that !
(No please don't mention the cloud )
Anita, I just looked at my Amazon account and I've got almost 3000 there. Then there's calibre, where I keep all the books I've got from Baen and other places.
6000
Aren't ebooks Magic?
I agree, they are wonderful - and you can get the Kindle app to work on just about everything, so you are never alone when you are by your self. I have it on my phone amongst other devices and I'm reading Pride and Prejudice whenever I get a small gap. Absolutly brilliant (both the app and the book!)I am a writer but also a reader, and love books, but can't confess to more than about 30 queued up on the e-shelf, and about another 20 queued up on the study shelf. Yes, there are times when only paper will do. :)
Best,
Dave.

Sounds like my collection is small fry compared to some. Thank goodness for that. I thought I was obsessive for a minute there :-)

Hehehehe thought it was just me ! Yes ebooks are magic Patti. The only books I have in paper now David are my natural history books, but even those are starting to creep onto iPad
I totally suffer from oneclickitis!!!Welcome Alison and Chris to our lovely, albeit a bit barmy, group xxx

I keep telling Roy that there are worse things I could suffer from !

Sheesh, I have a thousand or so paperback books that I have collected over the years and I cherish every one of them, refusing to part with any book I have read. I can see the benefit of an electronic collection as I would get so much space back ... but they hold so many memories, and so many friends, that I would feel real guilt at throwing them away. It would almost be like abandoning a large and exotic family.
Am I mad? Probably, but hey ... aren't all writers in one way or another?
Dave.
The Oui Trip
I don't think you are mad David and freeing up the space was one of the reasons I got a kindle in the first place. I have kept a few books that are very special to me and then rebought the rest on kindle so it's win win all round for me.
