Jax (jaxn) #16 What is your favourite hobby? I put Percy Jackson Sea of Monsters since mine is travel.

message 52: by Rose (new)

Rose | 52 comments I put The Scapegracers for a job I would hate. The protagonist’s dads own an antique shop, and while that doesn’t necessarily sound terrible (not my cup of tea, perhaps, but not hatred inducing), they talk a lot about bidding at auctions, which sounds so truly stressful, I know I would absolutely hate that part of the job.

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments FYI, we have earned two (out of four) wildcards so far! We can use these to fill in any prompts we're not getting to with our books. We still have several open prompts left, so I'd suggest we don't commit them to a prompt until we're down to just a few, but just wanted to let everyone know they're there!

message 54: by Chelsey (new)

Chelsey Keathley-Jones (keathleyc) | 237 comments Placed chosen by favorite time of day. I like late night and the characters are nocturnal vampires.

message 55: by Joi (new)

Joi | 43 comments I used Writers & Lovers for something I think I'm good at.

message 56: by Joi (new)

Joi | 43 comments I used The Stolen Daughter for something you think is beautiful. It's about family.

message 57: by Kat (new)

Kat | 567 comments I finished The Hundred and Ninety-nine Steps which I have assigned to favourite holiday. It is set Whitby which is my favourite place to go on holiday/vacation and I go every year for Halloween which is my favourite holiday/celebration

Will check to see if I can put my current book somewhere."

I'm sorry you've been ill, Lieke, but so glad you're doing better! <3

message 59: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1584 comments I finished The Nickel Boys and put in under Be an Olympic athlete, what sport would you compete in? Part of the books talks about the schools boxing championship. I am not sure there is any sport that I would be good at but always though I might enjoy boxing as it seems like a good way to get rid of pent up aggression.

Thanks Roxana!

message 61: by Joi (new)

Joi | 43 comments I used You Should See Me in a Crown for a phobia because she has to break out of her comfort zone to become prom queen. My phobia would be being the center of attention.

message 62: by Jax (new)

Jax (jaxn) #45 How much does a polar bear weigh?
Answer: I weight Less than a polar bear.

message 63: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments Jax wrote: "#45 How much does a polar bear weigh?

Ha, I love that response.

message 64: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthag503) | 517 comments Nothing to See Here was set in summer for the my favorite season prompt.

message 65: by Lieke (new)

Lieke | 697 comments I finished Gratis geld voor iedereen and put it under 21 What is one thing you do to get motivated?
Because the book is also about working only 16 hours a week, and if I want to motivate myself for something it can be good to take a day of and have a whole day to work on it.

message 66: by Jax (new)

Jax (jaxn) #23 What is a hidden talent you have?
I used The Titan's Curse because I can navigate really well using different methods like they do on their quest.

message 67: by Samantha (last edited Jul 23, 2020 08:49AM) (new)

Samantha | 1584 comments I finished My Brother's Husband, Volume 2 and used What is a popular trend that you can’t stand? This might be a stretch but we have limited options. I can's stand the current trend of self quarantining and travel being limited. It means that I can't plan a trip to Japan and think before all this got started my husband was starting to give into the idea.

message 68: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments I just put in Master and Commander for “If you had a boat, what would you name it?” A million great boat name options in this book & series, and I’m the nerd who’d probably name it after one of these ships anyway. This book can very easily get shifted to the time travel prompt too, if needed.

We now only have four open prompts left, and we have three wild cards earned already. Do we want to put those in after the next filled prompt so we can move to round 2?

Sure, using the wildcards like that would make sense. Restarts at 2 pts per book?

message 70: by Chelsey (new)

Chelsey Keathley-Jones (keathleyc) | 237 comments Sounds good on the Wildcard plan

message 71: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1584 comments We are half way so it might be fun to see the new questions and get started on clearing those as well.

message 72: by Joi (new)

Joi | 43 comments I used Every Heart A Doorway for something I hate but wish I loved. I hate death.

message 73: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments I just finished The Silvered Serpents (it took me allll daaaay to finish the last 30 pages or so, lol), so I'm putting that in for the prompt "what food would you want an endless supply of" - the characters spend a lot of time eating cakes and sugar cookies, and I wouldn't mind an endless supply of either one!

So now we can use a wildcard on the final prompt...and start round 2, for 2 points per book! I've added the round 2 section on the same sheet below round 1, and as I'm typing this, I noticed Martha is already on top of filling in our first round 2 prompt, so that's awesome!

message 74: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthag503) | 517 comments I finished The Garden of Small Beginnings for the question about if you could have an endless supply of food, what food would you choose. This book was about a community garden and I love homegrown vegetables.

message 75: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments Hey team, sorry. I needed to catch up on some sleep the past few days, I am stressing about having to send the kiddos back to school and what that's even going to look like. I've only read about 100 something pages of The Priory of the Orange Tree at night before passing out ( and napping on and off for two days straight), but I have plenty of reading time tomorrow, and more books in from the library.

message 76: by Kat (new)

Kat | 567 comments Yay round 2!
I just finished A Court of Mist and Fury and have assigned it to what are you bad at. The main character likes to paint and is a talented artist. I am terrible at art and any kind of craft. I even struggle to paint a wall properly.

message 77: by Chelsey (new)

Chelsey Keathley-Jones (keathleyc) | 237 comments Added Chosen to What is a goal you haven't been able to reach? They are trying to reach the lost books, I will never finish my growing TBR list.

It is a different book with the same title as my Chosen in round one.

message 78: by Rose (new)

Rose | 52 comments I added A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor for “outdoor activity,” because one of the main characters is a runner and so am I.

message 79: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments I’ve added Giant Days Volume 1 to “how much does a polar bear weigh” because a) they’re fairly giant, and b) there are a couple of cheesy pickup lines in the book.

message 80: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments oh, I also added London in Bloom for “what smells make you happy”! It’s a photo-essay book about the gardens & flowers of London, and the scent of flowers makes me happy. Pretty straightforward answer there 😂

message 81: by Jax (new)

Jax (jaxn) #23 What is a hidden talent you have? Bargaining.

Never Split the Difference

( I started a bunch of books and realized keeping track of pages read is a pain so I'm just adding the pages to the spreadsheet as the finish the book. Hopefully I can get a few more done this weekend.)

message 82: by Kat (new)

Kat | 567 comments I've finished The House in the Cerulean Sea which I have assigned to something you do which you wish was automated. The main character has to write a lot of reports for his job. This is something I do a lot for work and really wish their was a better way of doing it.

message 83: by Johanna (new)

Johanna Ellwood (jpellwood) | 327 comments Just logged three books that I have read and/or finished.

What is your favorite TV show?
Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood because I love watching Trevor Noah on The Daily Show.

If you woke up tomorrow as an animal, what animal would you choose to be?
The Fur Person since it is about a cat, and I would TOTALLY want to be a cat (mine in particular).

What is your favorite part of a county fair?
The Stars of Summer since she writes a review of the best hotdogs in the city, and really where else do you get a perfect corndog but at a county fair?

message 84: by Jax (new)

Jax (jaxn) #3 When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood
Like the narrator I wanted to be Madame Curie when I grew up.

#14 What is your favorite season of the year?
They Called Us Enemy
Winter, which comes up with snow and the excitement of him seeing that while in the camps.

message 85: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments I added The Paper Magician in for "something you think is beautiful" - I love origami and kiragami, and other paper arts like those, which is the source of magic used by the protagonist.

I have updated your total points for the team! It can be found in the second post of this thread.

Keep up the hard work, and happy last day of the read-a-thon!

message 87: by Kat (new)

Kat | 567 comments I just finished Rosemary and Rue which I have assigned to favourite time of day. The main character is half fairy and gets sick if she goes outside at dawn. I am very much a morning person and love to watch the sunrise.

message 92: by Jax (new)

Jax (jaxn) #33 What job would you hate?
I would hate being a lawyer so I put in Ruth Bader Ginsburg: A Life (I've been reading it off and on for weeks and got motivated to finish it this week).

#30 What is a popular trend that you can’t stand?
Those trite sayings that trend all over social media that are meant to make you feel better but a lot of times do the opposite. This book helps with that. There Is No Good Card for This: What To Say and Do When Life Is Scary, Awful, and Unfair to People You Love

Happy reading, team! Thanks for a great Read-a-Thon!

Here's your final point totals:

Total Points Earned: 97
- Total Books Read (1 pt per book): 58 (44+17) Books
- Total Pages Read (1 pt per 1000 pages): 19,904 Pages
- 3 Wildcards Available

message 94: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1584 comments Ohh, looks like my totals didn't save yesterday :( I didn't end up finishing anything else though. I had a fun week of reading though. Great job team sherberts!

message 95: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments This was fun! Great job, sherbets, and it was fun getting to see everyone’s answers to the prompts. ☺️
