This book has two narratives that alternate. One is in the “present” and one is in the future.

I remember that the main character in one of the narratives is named “Icey” or maybe “Icy” and she has dreadlocks. Her parents work for the government so find out ahead of time about this plague that’s coming so they try to take her on a plane to Vegas to go hide in a bunker. Her parents get stopped but she makes it on the plane and she meets a bald cheerleader and they travel together to the bunker. They run into two more kids, both boys. They go hide in the bunker and Icey locks everyone in.

In the other narrative there’s this guy leading a society of people on a mountain after the “apocalypse” has happened and they worship social media things. I remember “the Twitter” being a title. And then they encounter people from off the mountain who think they’re all weird and crazy.

The book *might* have been called Half Life and I remember the cover being black and neon green with a black and white photograph of a girl’s eyes.

I can’t remember much else.
