It's not just a lot, it's every character, spell, monster, lore and setting, etc. that is straight from the game. Also with nods to the 80's cartoon and Critical Role.
There are a few liberties they take with the "rules", like the druid's shape-changing, but it follows the Rule of Cool.

tell me about it - I missed it at the cinema and got very excited when Trike mentioned it was now streaming - only to discover it isn't released here until July. Sigh...

You’d think they’d release it on the same day to prevent pirating via torrents.

Trike | 11258 comments Watched the first 4 episodes of Silo on Apple TV. Absolutely riveting. It’s been just long enough since I read Wool Omnibus that I’ve forgotten some of the details, but the broad strokes are there. Based on the pace and what I recall of the books, I hope this gets at least two more seasons, because there’s plenty of story.

I didn’t realize it was being run by Graham Yost, but knowing that I’m not surprised it’s so good. Easily one of the best cop shows this century was Boomtown, canceled too soon. He also produced The Pacific, Justified, The Americans and From the Earth to the Moon, all legitimately great series.

Agree with both the assessment of the show and of Netflix. We’re going to have to treat streamers the way we did broadcast TV: don’t start watching a show until season 3 has been announced. That ended up killing networks here in the US, and streamers are repeating their mistakes.

Trike | 11258 comments Re-watched Avengers: Endgame last night. Still super great. It’s one of the few movies where there’s little doubt that it has 3 definitive acts, each one just about an hour long.

1 - Assembling the Crew/Making a Plan
2 - Time Heist!
3 - Battle for the Fate of the Universe

It’s almost perfectly constructed.

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) I'm a bit behind the times here but I've really been enjoying Star Wars Rebels. After what a slog the early seasons of The Clone Wars were, when Rebels got off to a shaky start in the first half dozen episodes I didn't have much hope for it. But once (view spoiler) guest-starred in a mid-season episode, things really picked up. I'm strangely addicted now, early in season two.

It’s super good. I could never get into Clone Wars but I really liked Rebels. For my money it’s second only to Andor. Mandalorian is a close third place.

Rebels is awesome…it really was some the best TV out there. I just did a rewatch again about a month ago and it is still outstanding. Outstanding storytelling and characters you care about. I worship at Dave Filioni’s altar.

I recommend The Bad Batch too. Especially if you have finished TCW. It has ended up telling a story about the effects of the war. I didn’t even know I needed these stories or closure, yet I did.

Trike | 11258 comments I watched The Princess on Hulu earlier because it’s apparently one of those films/shows that Disney is deleting from streaming forever.

It’s a lot of fun. Not a great movie, but it successfully answers the question, “What if a Disney Princess was John Wick?” So if you want to see a truly kick-ass teen princess max out on martial arts and swordplay, catch it before it gets removed this week.

Gary Gillen | 120 comments I’m watching Season Three of American Gods on A DVD from the library. The series was originally on Starz. There should have been a fourth season or a movie to complete the plot from the novel, American Gods by Neil Gaiman. I’m disappointed that they will not make a fourth and final season of the show.
There are a lot of shows that are on my, to be watched list. I’d like to watch The Last of Us Season One on Max, Sandman Season One on Netflix, and Willow Season One on Disney Plus.
There are shows I want to watch that are coming up like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season Two (starting on June 15) on Paramount Plus and Wheel of Time Season Two (September 1) on Amazon Prime Video.

If you want to watch Willow, you better start binging it right now. Disney is removing it from Disney+ at the end of this month, and you won't be able to watch it anywhere after that.

That's some tall praise! I will say I'm enjoying the heck out of it now, but not sure I would place it ahead of Mandalorian yet. Of course, I'm only partway into the second season....

Clone Wars was frustrating for the first season or two, then really up and down for the next 2-3 seasons but it did get really good at the end. (Kind of like the prequel trilogy itself, now that I think about it....)

Calvey wrote: "I recommend The Bad Batch too. Especially if you have finished TCW. It has ended up telling a story about the effects of the war. I didn’t even know I needed these stories or closure, yet I did."

I'm definitely moving on to that one as soon as I finish Rebels.

How about the Resistance series? Has anyone seen it? Is it any good?

Resistance is not very good. There are a few good episodes..but not really enough to make watching it worth it imho.

message 1420: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Richter (stephenofskytrain) | 1649 comments I liked the Resistance. The art is a throwback to Dave Filoni days working on Avatar: The Last Airbender. Guess you have to be into the art of fighter jets to really get into it. Before you get invested in the series you can do the shorts which feature the jets and the pilots and see if it is worth it.

Resistance wasn't that good IMO. It doesn't feel particularly Star Wars.

Of the Animated series. I would rate Rebels as my favourite with Bad Batch 2nd.

Bad Batch gets better as it goes on. Some of the last series was just brilliant.

message 1422: by John (Nevets) (new)

John (Nevets) Nevets (nevets) | 1904 comments I agree with Dave, but I also think Bad Batch is even more of a dichotomy then Clone Wars was. I mean half of it stars a young plucky and smart kid who kids could see themselves in, and adults can enjoy. But the part with Crosshair is so dark, I know it would have freaked me out as a kid, and it didn’t make me comfortable as an adult. But maybe I’m not giving today’s kids enough credit.

I also enjoyed Resistance. Not nearly as much as the other series, but I still liked some of the things it tried to do. I think it was fairly light on purpose, and I dug that. While still trying to show a very inclusive community.

message 1425: by Trike (new)

Trike | 11258 comments I watched Shazam 2 today. It’s actually okay. The story is a solid superhero tale. The only real problem stems from the fact that teenage Billy Batson and superhero Billy Batson are tonally different. The young version is serious and comes across as measured and intelligent, while in his Shazam persona he’s a dimwitted goofball. That’s a directing issue. If you can ignore that, it’s fine.

It is available on Paramount+. Which I occasionally have through my Prime account hub.

I would have checked it out for free, but I'm not a huge Trek fan that I will go chasing it.

I am surprised that youtube TV hasn't gone outside the US yet.

I feel the same about Star Trek but I love Strange New Worlds. The writing is so good.

Here’s an example: https://flic.kr/p/2oEoZLu

Pike: Yellow alert. Erica, take us closer.
Ortegas: How close do you want to get? First date? Or third date?
Pike: Blind date.
Ortegas: Copy; proceeding with caution.

Is it better than "SW: Lower Decks"?

That is the standard by which I will judge Star Trek by from now on.

I will check it out when I sign back up for P+ to watch Yellowjackets S2.

Rob (robzak) | 7205 comments Mod
I like Lower Decks better as a whole, but SNW is right up there. I'm looking forward to the new season.

However I'm a pretty big Trek fan (I've watched most of the Trek that's been released minus ToS) and like all the stuff that's been on Paramount+ except probably Picard Season 2 (haven't watched S3 yet).

Discovery was a bit uneven for me, but I've like the bulk of it, which I know isn't the case for some vocal subset of the Trek fanbase.

I think the vibe is the same, although SNW is slightly less wacky. Not completely, however, because the episode where Spock and T’Pring switch bodies has a high goofy-fun factor. Plus there are other silly moments here and there. (And of course there’s the Lower Decks crossover happening in s2 of SNW.)

Trike | 11258 comments Rewatched Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse a little while ago in anticipation of seeing the sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse later today. (You’re right, I don't sleep much.) Anyway, “Into” is still great.

Once again I marveled (ha) at the efficiency of the storytelling and the ability of Lord & Miller to wrangle all the crazy disparate pieces that shouldn’t work together tonally yet somehow do. I fully expect “Across” to employ the same magical storytelling alchemy. Fingers crossed.

Trike wrote: "(And of course there’s the Lower Decks crossover happening in s2 of SNW.)"

I forgot that was happening. I will have to catch up on S1 of SNW before that happens.

message 1437: by Trike (new)

Trike | 11258 comments Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is just as good as “Into” with one caveat - it’s only part one of two movies. I did not know that going in, so it was a surprise.

It’s 2 hours 25 minutes but doesn’t feel like it. At one point I was thinking, “This has been going on for a while, how are they going to wrap this up?” And that turned out to be the final scene.

The sequel Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse comes out next March. Long wait. So that considered, I’d give it 3 stars.

message 1443: by John (Nevets) (new)

John (Nevets) Nevets (nevets) | 1904 comments I had to look up where that was in the series, since it all blends together after a while. And yep that was a great season ender. But for me season 3 was the one where “sh*t gets real”. It starts a bit slow, but pretty quickly develops into a very intense season.

message 1444: by Trike (new)

Trike | 11258 comments I watched Crater on Disney+ tonight and it’s actually surprisingly good. I wish they’d done more accurate science stuff, but I get the limitations of budget and audience expectations. At least they made a stab at it. The story is rock-solid and the acting by all the kids is amazing. Some parts are genuinely heartbreaking.

Also 'Buck Rodgers in the 25th Century' theatrical release from which the pilot was made, 'Elvira's Haunted Hills' and 'Dr. Phibes Rises Again'. All of these have some merit, depending on your tastes.
