17. Was any part of Chandler's assessment of Harry on target? Do you think she, in the end, believed what she said about him in court?

Tracey (trakka) | 407 comments I'm not sure. I think she was just doing her job and whatever it took for her client to win.

I don't think she believed he was a bad cop but do believe she thought he was out of control. Most of what she said in court was to protect her client, not necessarily anything she believed.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 2240 comments Chandler was doing the best for her client as any lawyer should. Nevertheless, she did take it too far with her actions with Edgar and her refusal to give Harry the note.

As to her assessment of Harry, I also don't think she believed he was a cold blooded killer but she did think he acted recklessly and in a way, he did.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments I think that she got carried away with her own rhetoric in the courtroom, when the judge even brought charges against her.
Maybe the letter spooked her, but she wouldn't give it to Harry because she thought she might lose her case against him?

Very sadly, she lost her life. I certainly didn't want her to be the next blonde victim either.

She could have given it to him after the jury was deliberating. It would have had no effect on the outcome. This was the one thing that bugged me about her even more than her interaction with Edgar.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments Lauren & Stephanie -- I think your point that she could/should have given that note to Harry after the jury was deliberating is a good one. It might have been a whole different story if she had given Harry the note, do you think?

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 2240 comments Yes, Charlene
Not giving Harry the letter cost her her life

Jim O'Donnell | 48 comments I don't think Chandler honestly believes Bosch acted recklessly in shooting Church, or that he poses greater risk to the public than would any other officer in similar circumstances. I think that she, as a defense attorney with her experience, knows full well the risks and dangers that permeate these encounters when cops and criminals cross paths.

But the jury doesn't understand this arena as well as she does, so the opportunity exists for her to portray Harry as reckless, out of control and over the line -- which she does, unabashedly. The rationale that she does it for her client doesn't wash with me, I don't think it's ok that she bends bend the truth to benefit her client at Harry's expense.
