Can I read this without having read The Mortal Instruments series first?
Looking at the publication dates, the first in this series was published after the first 3 of TMI were published. Just wondering about major spoilers as I'll read TMI eventually! :)
I wondered the same thing actually.. I'm in the middle of the first book in the Mortal Instruments Series now.
I'm still going to jump in and read the book anyway. It might actually be better since I'm already in the shadow hunter mindset reading TMI. Speaking of TMI, I'm about halfway on the first book and I really like it so far.

Glad you like it so far!
I'm a little over halfway through City of Ashes. I should finish either today or tomorrow so then I can start this one :)

(view spoiler) Hoping I'll enjoy the next two more :)
So is anyone else listening to the audio book? The narrator's voice... I definitely had to get used to it. (view spoiler)

I think I've been reading too many Cassandra Clare books.. the last two nights I've dreamt about shadow hunters and things of the like. lol.

I finished Clockwork Angel on my way to work this morning! I liked it but I think I liked Mortal instruments better.
I'm not even halfway, but I already agree with you Brandy. I liked (so far) the Mortal Instruments series better.
I'm having a tough time getting through this one..I can't tell if it's the narrator or if the lack of excitement is getting to me. I hope it picks up soon.

(view spoiler) I think this book is a set up for something bigger and better.

I think this book is very well written. However, I get tripped up on some of the words the author uses (from the 1800's). I find myself constantly stopping to look the words up in the dictionary.

Brandy wrote: "[spoilers removed] I think this book is a set up for something bigger and better."
(view spoiler) . I think you could be right about that. I'm intrigued to see where it goes next!
I'm about 70% and you're right, it picks up... a little. haha.
I think it's the narrator and the fact that the setting is so long ago. So therefore the language is so different and proper. The 1800's you say Dii? That would make complete sense.
By the way.. (view spoiler)

I really like this pace! I don't feel like it's too slow at all. I feel just as confused as Tessa, so I need some time to properly digest this new world, lol!
Yeah me too.
Also, the second book just came in already. That was fast! I have in checked out for 21 days though so I can wait until the 1st. :)

Ready to start book two everyone?
In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street—and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa’s powers for his own dark ends.
With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister’s war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move—and that one of their own has betrayed them.
Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, but her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will—the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?
As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.

So I completely forgot the ending of the first book already. I also forgot who half of these people were. I had to read our old spoilers haha. But now I'm back in it.
