Tatiana | 2 comments I'm looking for a book that I started to read around 2 years ago but never finished. I think the author was American. I remember the beginning: the protagonist is a woman in her 40s (maybe older or younger?) suddenly gets a divorce notification from her husband who's currently in a hospital. The woman suspects he found a younger one, who's more lively. She thinks that her husband now has a new smell. She goes to an agency maybe and applies for a job (??? I don't remember which one) in a downtrodden town.

The protagonist is a very uptight woman, who always tried to make everything right. She has older kids who despise her or don't really respect her.

When she arrives in the town it looks untidy and the people there just kind of given up on it. and I vaguely remember that she spent her first night in some old building and she was worried about keeping the lights on for some reason, so she turned it off.

I stopped at the moment where she fainted and found herself surrounded by some very untidy strangers. Maybe one of them was in a wheelchair.
