Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Hi Just because we were talking about quite an ambitious Group Read, I just thought I would list it & see how everyone feels about it.

January - Arabella
February -Venetia
March - These Old Shades
April - Devil's Cub -
May - Regency Buck
June - An Infamous Army
July - The Reluctant Widow
August - The Grand Sophy -
September - False Colours
October - Faro's Daughter
November - No read
December - The Quiet Gentleman - happening now!

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1136 comments Looks good!

message 3: by Linda (new)

Linda | 131 comments I like having the schedule in advance, so now I'll have time to try and get copies of each book in time. Thanks!

message 4: by Jacquie (new)

Jacquie Scuitto | 261 comments March through June would let a number of characters reappear, the only ones that GH did that with to my knowledge.

message 5: by Louise Sparrow (new)

Louise Sparrow (louisex) | 460 comments I love the next three, I'm not sure I can bring myself to read Infamous Army after some of the comments I've seen about it but maybe the group read will change my mind!

message 6: by Carolien (new)

Carolien (carolien_s) | 88 comments I like the schedule. Regency Buck was the first GH novel that I ever read (about 30 years ago!) and I didn't realise at the time there is an order to these ones. An Infamous Army used to be a prescribed text book at Sandringham military college since the information on the actual battle was considered so good.

HJ | 948 comments Carolien wrote: "...Sandringham military college ..."

Sandhurst.

Thanks, knew that felt off but couldn't think why!

Louise Sparrow (louisex) | 460 comments Don't know if you've noticed but the Kindle editions of These Old Shades and Devil's Cub are down to £3.49 on Amazon Uk and some of the others are cheaper.

Also if you buy them first, some of the Audible versions can then be purchased for almost the same price.

I had most of them on price watch and got quite a few before Christmas for £2 62, still waiting for price drops on The Reluctant Widow and Frederica and one other which I can't remember at the moment. I'm still looking for paperback copies as well, but have quite a few on my kindle. I'm being restrained and saving them to read slowly over the next few months instead of galloping through them as per my usual habit.

message 11: by QNPoohBear (new)

QNPoohBear | 1638 comments I'm not fond of any of those books but if anyone wants to read more mysteries or The Grand Sophy, I'd be up for that.

message 12: by Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ (last edited Jan 11, 2015 06:51PM) (new)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ February is still free! :) I love The Grand Sophy & would be happy to read that. Or I've been loaned Envious Casca which I remember as being one of her better mysteries.

message 13: by Teffanie (new)

Teffanie (thequaintdamsel) | 6 comments Love Devil's Cub! I started the year reading Black Sheep and finished it in just a few days. Not disappointed by it, but I felt the ending was NOT enough. I am currently re-reading Sylvester which, surprisingly, is my current favourite!!! I wonder why it did not reach my top GH list last year. Perhaps you can give it a try in February? :)

Sylvester was a group read last July, but there is no reason that you can't go to those threads & add your thoughts. :)

Meanwhile, much as I hate to nag (ok I'm lying I love nagging. Thats why I had kids! :D ) we need to make a decision about the Feb read. I'm going away for a week from tomorrow & won't have internet access. I'd love The Grand Sophy or Envious Casca but since the Big Four Month Read is my idea I think the rest of you should make the choice. :)

message 15: by Jacquie (new)

Jacquie Scuitto | 261 comments I'm still pushing The Toll Gate but would also enjoy revisiting Venetia or the Unknown Ajax. Both the latter heroes make me laugh and both have some wonderful lesser characters.

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1136 comments The toll gate

message 17: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (stress_less_jess) | 32 comments I'm up for pretty much any of the aforementioned (Tollgate, Venetia, Unknown Ajax, Grand Sophy), but I'm not a fan of Heyer's mysteries.

Jay-me (Janet) | 131 comments I thought The Unknown Ajax was one that had been read recently?

I just read The Toll Gate before Christmas, Venetia & the Grand Sophy are ones I have in paperback and have been read and re-read many times. I would prefer one of the ones that I haven't read for a while which include False Colours Charity Girl Beauvallet and Faros Daughter (some - but not all ;) - of the ones that I bought as my Christmas gift to myself)

message 19: by Amy (new)

Amy (aggieamy) | 422 comments I think all the choices are good ones my top vote would be for Toll Gate though.

message 20: by Jacquie (new)

Jacquie Scuitto | 261 comments False Colours is a good one too. I love Sir Bonamy! I just wish GH had written a follow up to show what happens with Kit. I've always wondered ...

message 21: by Linda (new)

Linda | 131 comments I would vote for Venetia only because I'm pretty sure it's already on my bookshelf (I need to double-check that though) and it's one I have not read.

message 22: by Amy (new)

Amy (aggieamy) | 422 comments Someday I'd like to do a group read of Convenient Marriage too. I know it's one I'd like to be able to discuss as I read.

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1136 comments I like Convenient Marriage. I find Lord Rule funny.

message 24: by Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ (last edited Jan 14, 2015 10:06AM) (new)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Ok its 6.30 in the morning & I'm drinking my morning coffee before I pack.

Other than The Unknown Ajax (just done as a group read) I'm up for any of them. I've only just read Charity Girl so I would just join in the discussion.

Maybe someone could ask Christy B to do a poll?

So far we have

The Grand Sophy
Envious Casca (mystery)
False Colours
The Tollgate
Venetia
Charity Girl
Beauvallet
Faro's Daughter
Convenient Marriage

Now I'm off to Heineken Open (tennis) See everyone later!

message 25: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) I’ll put in a vote for False Colours.

message 26: by Carolien (new)

Carolien (carolien_s) | 88 comments Venetia is one of my favourites (my mother just found me a new copy, since mine was falling to pieces and pretty much beyond repair). But I would be happy with any of the ones on the list.

message 27: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum | 3895 comments I'm ok with those, too!

message 28: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum | 3895 comments I mean, one of them. Maybe not all of them...

message 29: by Amy (new)

Amy (aggieamy) | 422 comments I think I started a poll and I think I invited everyone ...

Maybe.

Hopefully.

message 30: by Ellen (new)

Ellen | 111 comments Just voted for Venetia. Love that book.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ yay internet working on my phone again! I voted for Envious Casca because I have to return soon.

message 32: by Amy (new)

Amy (aggieamy) | 422 comments I think the polls close on the 21st so everyone get your votes in before then!

message 33: by Karlyne (new)

Would you send me the poll, Amy? For some strange reason, I can't find it!

Let's see if linking it here works:

https://www.goodreads.com/poll/list/1...

I'll also try sending it to you.

message 35: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum | 3895 comments Got it! I don't know why I couldn't find it.

message 36: by Amy (new)

Amy (aggieamy) | 422 comments Polls are closed and Venetia wins!

message 37: by QNPoohBear (new)

QNPoohBear | 1638 comments Venetia is my favorite! I am in love with Damarel.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ I don't remember it well - so all the more reason to reread it! :)

message 39: by Amy (new)

Amy (aggieamy) | 422 comments This is one that I tried to read a few years ago and couldn't get into it. I'm happy to try reading it again with the group!

message 40: by QNPoohBear (new)

QNPoohBear | 1638 comments Venetia is the most romantic of all GH's novels.

message 41: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 1729 comments hm, I don't think I agree. but I have to think about it.

message 42: by HJ (new)

HJ | 948 comments When does the Venetia read take place?

message 43: by Amy (new)

Amy (aggieamy) | 422 comments Do you want me to start the threads for the Venetia read along? I know the next ones have been covered but I don't think anyone volunteered for this one yet. I will start them February 1 if that works for everyone.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ That would be great Amy! :)

message 45: by Linda (new)

Linda | 131 comments February is off to a great start - I'm on chapter 4 of Venetia. This time I'll be reading with the group instead of a month behind or ahead. :)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Linda wrote: "February is off to a great start - I'm on chapter 4 of Venetia. This time I'll be reading with the group instead of a month behind or ahead. :)"

I've already finished & review up. I'm a day ahead of most of you & had either a mild case of food poisoning or a tummy bug on Sunday, so I snuggled down in bed & read. Other than the awful contemporary Helen or her more leaden historicals I always bolt through my GH reads!

message 47: by Amy (new)

Amy (aggieamy) | 422 comments Starting a thread now! Sorry for the delay.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ No worries Amy.:)

Tadiana ✩Night Owl☽ | 363 comments Oops! I feel like a racehorse that missed the starting gun. I was delving into A Study in Emerald yesterday when I was supposed to be hanging out with Venetia. :D

message 50: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum | 3895 comments I've been chewing over Cassandra (I Capture the Castle) instead of Venetia. But I think I can let her go now and concentrate on someone else!
