Thanks! That was way easier than actually finding it.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Hahahaha, smartypants! & what was that about goat's heads? A wind up? :D

Goat's heads are horrific pointy weeds that'll go all the way through a boot sole, but, luckily this was just an itty bitty one and didn't cause any permanent damage. I don't know if they're native to Idaho, but I've never seen them anyplace else! (By the way,I did vacuum! And what's a wind up?!?)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ I can't stop laughing! Let's just say I've never heard of a weed called Goat's Head! :D

A wind up is when you pull someone's leg!

message 255: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum | 3895 comments Gospel truth, no wind up! (Is it pronounced wind, as in gale force, or wind, as in an action performed on a clock?)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ wind as in an action performed on a clock!

Tadiana ✩Night Owl☽ | 363 comments We have goats head weeds some places in Utah too. They're nasty things, with round spiky seed pods that really do look like miniature goats' heads. If you've never seen them, look them up on Google.

Susan in Perthshire (susanageofaquarius) | 1448 comments I did not get the link either! but I searched the site after I got the email and finally found it and voted - but I am so lazy and love the instant links!!

message 261: by Louise Sparrow (new)

Louise Sparrow (louisex) | 460 comments I find the easiest way of getting to the polls is the link on the right hand menu at the top of the page.

It's on every page under the group name, the last option before the search.

And the plants themselves are so innocuous looking! Nice little ground-cover, ha!

Under "polls", seriously easy to find- now that you've pointed it out! I'll try to remember it.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ *hangs head in shame* I was worried about making it too easy to vote as we have a large number of inactive members & other groups have had problems with people voting & not turning up for the read. But, even if people do that, with this month's titles we should end up with a good read!

& as Louise says, it's not the most intuitive of sites! If my sister hadn't been helping me when I first joined I would have given up! I had all sorts of trouble figuring out where to place my review!

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ & just a reminder that the poll for the September read finishes Jul 30, 2015 11:59PM PDT

The Grand Sophy read starts on the 1st of August.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ & the poll has closed & False Colours won comfortably. This read will start the first of September. :)

message 269: by Lori (new)

Lori Mulligan Davis | 196 comments Good. I'm so looking forward to the "Grand Sophy" discussion. Found out (in amazement) that I'd never read it! Which means I've had a delightful week speculating, not just anticipating. See you all tomorrow.

Tadiana ✩Night Owl☽ | 363 comments I'll pass on the False Colours group read since I read it within the last year, but I may chime in on the threads. I'll be very interested to see how you all like Mama! (view spoiler)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ With the Grand Sophy, I remember it was a favourite of mine, but I don't remember it well - which is strange. I'm looking forward to this read!

False Colours from memory was more of a 4* read.

& Tadiana, chime in whenever you want! That is what I would have done if Behold Here's Poison had won as I have already read that one since joining Good Reads.

message 272: by QNPoohBear (new)

QNPoohBear | 1638 comments False Colors was not one of my favorites. If I don't have a review, I'll be sure to read it again.

Louise Sparrow (louisex) | 460 comments Looking forward to both, though I've read them many times :)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ & time to think about our October read!

I'm happy to lead any of the historical/regency reads except for My Lord John or Charity Girl. Mysteries I own are Envious Casca, A Blunt Instrument & Penhallow. If any of the other mysteries or MLJ or Charity Girl are successful, could the person who nominated please lead.

Books we have already read in 2015 are listed in message 1.

Books read in 2014 (so IMO too soon to read again) are

Cotillion
Frederica
Sylvester
Footsteps in the Dark (mystery)
The Nonesuch
The Unknown Ajax
Death in the Stocks (mystery)
The Foundling

I'll keep this open for a week or until we have 5 nominations, which ever comes first. & could anyone nominating just nominate 1 book?

Thanks a lot & let the nominations begin! :D

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ & although the thread about different settings did have me tempted to nominate one of the books set in Bath, I've decided to go with my original thought & nominate A Civil Contract

This book has had a lot of discussion here, so I've always been surprised it hasn't been read as a group read.

My Goodreads feed is so odd. Your comment doesn't show A Civil Contract, but when I "reply" to it, it shows up. Anyhow, I love that one, too!

I'll nominate A Blunt Instrument, so that we have a mystery, too!

message 280: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Ooh, I’ll second Ifurita’s Masqueraders. I haven’t read that one in so long, but I remember loving the heroine—and her crazy father!

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Now check this out! I've been at work today & have picked up Duplicate Death & They Found Him Dead from the throw out pile. So I am happy to lead those as well. I also got a falling apart hardback of These Old Shades since the typos make the Arrow tradition a travesty! So I'm happy to lead those mysteries as well

So far

A Civil Contract
Cousin Kate
A Blunt Instrument (mystery)
The Masqueraders (Restoration?)

Only one more spot!

Jessica (stress_less_jess) | 32 comments I nominate Faro's Daughter, simply because I just bought it online and haven't read it in a few years :)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Faro's Daughter it is!

Sorry Andrea, Jessica pipped you!

I'll put up the poll after I have had my coffee!

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1136 comments Ok, I'll nominate SM for another time.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Cool Andrea! :)

I've put the poll up!
Here is the poll addy & it should also be at the bottom of our home page.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Susan wrote: "Just caught this after being in Majorca for a week! Really pleased Faro's Daughter made it to the list!"

Welcome back!

It's a good mix I think - 2 that have had a lot of discussion, but not been read as a group, 2 Georgian & a mystery! :)

Susan in Perthshire (susanageofaquarius) | 1448 comments I agree - it would be good to do something different - much as I love her historical stuff, I also like her mysteries. I will be happy whichever is chosen!!

I want to vote for two of them, and A Blunt Instrument is one of them. I think I'll create an alter-ego.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Ok the poll closed & Faro's Daughter won by a whisker!

You probably think this is waaay too soon, but I want to talk about November's Group Read.

I am going to SE Asia on holiday for a month from the end of October.

I have 3 suggestions for what we can do about the November Read

1 I've read Charity Girl & Why Shoot a Butler(mystery) within the last year - & they are not my favourites. I think it would be better if the discussion was lead by someone who had a positive impression of one of these books & while I'm away would be the perfect time to do it!

2 The Masqueraders only just lost. I haven't read it in a long time but I remember it as a 3* read. So may be better if the read lead by someone else.

3 My least preferred option - have a month off & catch up on other reads.

Let's hear everyone's thoughts!

message 293: by Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ (last edited Sep 30, 2015 03:54PM) (new)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ I'll be putting up the threads for Faro's Daughter tonight (NZ time) Hope everyone who wanted to take part has managed to get a copy. :)

I'll be asking for nominations for the December group read about the 10th of October to allow time for the poll before I go away.

I'm taking it that everyone is happy to have November off? If you change your minds someone can lead & set up the threads. I won't get huffy! :D

message 294: by Chel (new)

Chel (knitchic54) | 10 comments I'm happy to have November off, but will go along with the group. I should catch up with another Heyer in that month to get a broader handle on GH. I have only read two in total!

Whichever is fine with me, too!

message 296: by Kim (new)

Kim Kaso | 511 comments I am new to the group, but have been reading and re-reading Georgette Heyer since I was in junior high. I attribute my knocking the verbal side of the SATs out of the park at least partially to reading and learning the vocabulary in her books. ;-) Back in the day there was no prep other than taking the PSATs, one just knew things or did not. I was thinking back, and I remember reading Faro's Daughter and Black Sheep back to back, and so it feels right to start there. I will reread False Colours in November while everyone takes a break.

message 297: by Kim (new)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ & I'll start with Powder & Patch.

My reasons are - it's a really short book so ideal for December when many of us are super busy
&
HJ found a link to the original ending (it's in the Really Useful Stuff folder) It would be good to read this book soon in case the link is taken down.
