Sabine | 11 comments I have received the mail. Thank you Carol!

Louise Sparrow (louisex) | 460 comments E-mail received... and who knows, maybe a few of those inactive members will be drawn in by it.

Also voting for Sophy as promised ;)

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1136 comments I have not rec'd the email.

But I'll go to the group home page and cast my vote from there.

message 204: by QNPoohBear (new)

QNPoohBear | 1638 comments I voted for Sophy again.

Andrea AKA Catsos Person (catsosperson) | 1136 comments I voted for Toll Gate.

Hmmm interesting, because my name went to the top. I wonder if Anne, Amy & Abigail got the email?

Thanks for explaining, Tadiana. And thank you Carol--I just read your email. Here I am all rested and ready to go for our next read :) I'm very happy with A Civil Contract but I'm even more torn now about how I'll vote since I'm in a sort of militaristic, Napoleonic war mood and I'm sooo tempted by The Spanish Bride :D

message 208: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Hi, Carol, no, I did not get an e-mail that contained the link to the poll, but I did see your notice here about the poll. Going there now!

I'm thinking the whole page didn't work. I'm wondering if I try broadcasting a message next time it might work better.

I messaged Anne. I may message Amy as well, but I don't want to hassle people.

Now, the other thing is I'm flying to Wellington on the 1st & won't be back till the 7th (NZ time) so I may put the threads up slightly early. I haven't used the app much & don't want to rely on that!

message 211: by HJ (new)

HJ | 948 comments I suspect that the inconsistencies with emails may be down to each person's individual settings. I have chosen not to get emails from Goodreads so don't get them, but I visit frequently enough to notice notifications (top right of Home page).

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ HJ wrote: "I suspect that the inconsistencies with emails may be down to each person's individual settings. I have chosen not to get emails from Goodreads so don't get them, but I visit frequently enough to ..."

Possible, but I get emails from other groups about polls. I'm wondering if it was me originally checking some people to send the notice, then changing my mind, so it sort of reversed. Ok, it made sense when I thought it! :D

I do receive email messages from other groups about polls.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ & Anne received the email but Amy didn't. I'll ask the moderator group if they have any suggestions.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ I've had a couple of replies in the moderator group.

One believes on Good Reads you can't email yourself. So that is me explained.

The other suggests in settings people who want to receive the polls go to Event notifications & make sure Invites me to answer a poll is checked. This doesn't explain why Andrea or anyone who gets polls from other groups didn't get this one. I'll wait a couple of days & see if there are any other ideas before contact Good Reads support.

message 216: by Amy (new)

Amy (aggieamy) | 422 comments Interesting indeed because I also get the invites from the English Mysteries polls but not this one.

As long as it's posted in this thread that there is a poll then I'll make sure and look for it. That kinda solves the problem. Well ... my problem anyway!

Well, I do wonder if it was me, because I was in the As selecting names when I decided it would be better to select everyone. But if anyone who has a username beginning with any other letter in the alphabet didnt get an email let me know!

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ & a very experienced Good Reader has suggested I use Broadcast next time rather than invites. She said invites not that reliable for groups with large numbers. So I'll try that next time.

Anyone's eyes glazing over with boredom yet? :D

I'll bite! What is Broadcast?

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Another way of sending the messages. I could persecute contact you guys every day doing that! I remember seeing broadcast when I was looking for something else, so we'll try that next month!

Whatever you use that gets to us is fine by me!

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ I get the feeling it will look the same to you guys as the invites.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Hi I'm just packing up to go away for a few days. I'll have my ph but sometimes the app works for me & sometimes it doesn't, so I'm going to put up the Reluctant Widow threads now. Feel free to start on NZ time if you are ready! :D

I'm going to go out on a limb & say August's read will probably be The Grand Sophy!

I'm now on a Wellington/Waterloo jag & I'm intending to read The Spanish Bride next month starting on or around the 15th of July. I'll put up a thread in Books when I'm ready to start & anyone who wants to join me is more than welcome!

I'll try to take the pic of An Infamous Army off the currently reading but you know me & the techy stuff! :D See everyone when I get back! :)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ & (ta dah!) it's nomination time for our September Group Read.
I'm not intending to nominate this time as our August read (The Grand Sophy) was my nomination & I've also put The Spanish Bride in books.

It's the same deal as last time except for one thing- I'm happy to lead any of the historical/regency reads except for My Lord John or Charity Girl. If they are successful could the person nominating lead them? Previously the only mystery I owned was A Blunt Instrument but I've just acquired Envious Casca. If any of the other mysteries are successful, could the person who nominated please lead.

Books we have already read in 2015 are listed in message 1.

Books read in 2014 (so IMO too soon to read again) are

2014 Cotillion
Frederica
Sylvester
Footsteps in the Dark (mystery)
The Nonesuch
The Unknown Ajax
Death in the Stocks (mystery)
The Foundling

I'll keep this open for a week or until we have 5 nominations, which ever comes first. & could anyone nominating just nominate 1 book?

Thanks a lot & let the nominations begin! :D

message 229: by Margaret (new)

Margaret | 613 comments I'd like to nominate Friday's Child. It was one of Heyer's own favorites, the subject of the only fan letter she kept, and tends to generate lively discussion.

message 230: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum | 3895 comments Ok, I'll nominate A Blunt Instrument!

message 231: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) May I nominate False Colours?

message 232: by QNPoohBear (new)

QNPoohBear | 1638 comments Karlyne wrote: "Ok, I'll nominate A Blunt Instrument!"

I'd like to read that or Behold, Here's Poison. The mysteries have been republished by Sourcebooks and should be easy to get.

message 233: by Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ (last edited Jul 19, 2015 01:47PM) (new)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Cool - I was hoping to wake up to really good nominations! QNPB would you be prepared to lead Behold Here's Poison if it wins? I'm going to assume the answer is yes. ;)

So far

Friday's Child
A Blunt Instrument (mystery)
False Colours
Behold, Heres Poison (mystery)

Room for one more!

Tadiana ✩Night Owl☽ | 363 comments I'd like to throw The Black Moth in there again. I still feel like we ought to read it since we did all of the Alastair books this year. :)

message 235: by Louise Sparrow (new)

Louise Sparrow (louisex) | 460 comments How about Cousin Kate?

message 236: by Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ (last edited Jul 19, 2015 04:08PM) (new)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ & we have our five. I will message QNPB to make sure she is Ok with leading Behold Here's Poison. I don't own a copy of that & my local library no longer has any of her mysteries.

So
Friday's Child
A Blunt Instrument (mystery)
False Colours
Behold Here's Poison (mystery)
The Black Moth

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Louise Sparrow wrote: "How about Cousin Kate?"

Missed by a fingernail, Louise! I'll put Cousin Kate down as first reserve in case QNPB doesn't want to lead. :)

message 239: by Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ (last edited Jul 20, 2015 02:28PM) (new)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ & I have heard from QNPB & she is fine with leading Behold; Here's Poison.

Poll is up!

I will mention that I will be away for a few days in the middle of September & may not have internet for part of that time. But I don't see that as a problem.

Now I'm just going to find the broadcast option to notify our members!

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Well broadcast worked for me! If anyone doesn't receive an email or notification, let me know.

& for some reason the poll is showing as number 3 rather than the top of the page, so scroll down.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Cool. (sorry karlyne) & I have the poll on the home page, but it is waaaaay down. A new person probably wouldn't scroll down. I'll have a look & see if I can shift it up or somehow compress our bookshelves later, but I had better start being productive now.

Go be productive! "I'll find it", she said confidently.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ It's under polls as well.

I'd rather be here than be productive to be honest. Current tasks riveting things like untangling my jewellery.

I need to vacuum because I just stepped on a goathead. Ok, I'll go do that first. Ow, ow, ow...

message 249: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) The poll was at the top of the list for me, but there was no link on the e-mail I received that connected to the poll. Mysteries of Goodreads. No worries, I got there!

message 250: by Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ (last edited Jul 20, 2015 05:09PM) (new)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Yes I didn't bother linking as the option is on the home page. I'll do that next time. :)

Here's the poll. :)
