Traveller (moontravlr) | 736 comments I think I might be interested in her bio of Hannah Arendt, Hannah Arendt, and then definitely in Desire in Language: A Semiotic Approach to Literature and Art , also possibly in Powers of Horror: An Essay on Abjection.

Any takers, please?

Jonathan (nathandjoe) | 43 comments yes - towards the end of the year would work best for me

Traveller (moontravlr) | 736 comments Wonderful, Jonathan - that makes me very happy. So where shall we slot it in - towards November, December ?

Before I add it to the schedule, I think I'll wait and see if someone else as a more definite time preference, since you and I am not in a hurry...

Oh, maybe I should mention for other member's benefit that this is for Desire in Language.

Yolande (sirus) I could join for the Hannah Arendt book but the other two I might not be able to get a hold of.

Oh good!
If you could perhaps get hold of The Kristeva Reader that might also work, and this looks pretty interesting: The Feminine and the Sacred ....

Oh yes, I can get the Kristeva Reader! I didn't know if a book like that would be sufficient for the content of original texts.

Yolande (sirus) I see the Kristeva Reader was edited by Toril Moi. I have Toril Moi's "Sexual Textual Politics" which was really good.

Well, if you cannot get the others, I reckon it is better than nothing, eh?

Traveller (moontravlr) | 736 comments Let's start Desire in Language on November 15, that ok?

And Yolande, do you feel like starting the Arendt book maybe something like June 19? I'm starting to stagger my dates now, become most group discussions start on the 1st of the month, and I already have discussions going every month by now, sometimes as much as 3 at a time... :P

That doesn't sound too bad, my schedule for the group readings isn't very full then.

Traveller (moontravlr) | 736 comments Ok, you're on. Will create shortly. :)

Obscureason | 92 comments Desire in Language and Powers of Horror (probably her most influential essay & widely available for free online) are both great picks, so I'll probably drop in on those discussions - thanks for setting that up Traveller. Black Sun: Depression and Melancholia is very good as well. I'm not as interested in Hannah Arendt but I'd also love to read Melanie Klein, her Melanie Klein bio, if anyone else is interested in psychoanalysis.

Thanks for the tip Obscureason, I didn't think it would be available in the public domain :)

Traveller (moontravlr) | 736 comments Oh, dear oh dear oh dear... I don't think I have created the Desire in Language thread yet, because I thought i have it, but i don't, and I cannot find it... I'll PM you.

Literary Multitudes (literary_multitudes) | 60 comments I'll definitely be interested to read at least her Arendt biography. I might start that one sooner than June, though. I just bought it last week. :)
But I'll also be following the thread for discussions of her other works. :)

Traveller (moontravlr) | 736 comments I apologize, but i can't find what i thought was my copy of desire in language, so I'm out for that one.... and hoping to find time for the Arendt one.

Literary Multitudes (literary_multitudes) | 60 comments So... is still someone up for reading "Hannah Arendt" starting next week? :-)

Of course I haven't started the book so far, but I'd still be very interested!
