ABANDONED. Dystopian/ Alternate History WWII

Set after Hitler won WWII and took over Europe and possibly US. Written before 1995 ( I read it in Jr. High). I can't remember much about it except people lived in apartments and the remaining jewish people hid their identities and pretended not to be jewish. A family gets found out because their baby has in inherited disease (tay sachs i think).

Short story or novel? Harry Turtledove wrote a story called "In the Presence of My Enemies" in 1992 (it's collected in a book called "Departures"). He expanded the story into a novel in 2003 (with the same name - confusing).

I agree with Andy. I remember the scene in the novel he is referencing where the baby gets Tay Sachs.

Zach, please add some of those plot details to your header - it's a good start but there are a lot of alternate history WWII books so we need additional details to flesh it out.
